Why even offer a hatchback if you're going to give up a lot of potential interior volume by putting in an angled rear window?

Because the entire point of the hatchback design is pleasing aesthetics first and foremost, with utility and practicality easily a distant fourth or fifth behind automatic ball fondlers in the seats and air conditioned USB charging ports.

I'd never buy that CUV thing but I don't think it looks too bad if you ignore the practical aspects eyebeem posted:I've said it before but... Some people have really weird taste in cars because although this is an CUV type arrangement, design wise it's attractive in that it all flows naturally and doesn't have a million pointless body lines like a lot of designs. Compare to a Juke that doesn't know whether it wants to be 90s melty box design or more modern sharper edge so has both and doesn't work; the fat, lardy looking Murano posted above or the Lexus NX that looks like a still from a Transformers film where the robot's halfway through changing... Y'all crazy.

I like it, like all of the other latest gen Mazda products. I'd prefer the wagon over a high centre of gravity CUV but I'm sure it'll sell a ton. They can call it the CX-7.

CUVs and crossovers all look very similar and the marketing for them is such that I feel alienated from them. I don't like how companies market their trucks and I don't like how they market their SUVs, CUVs, and crossovers. I also don't like being associated with the typical market for either of them. I'm pretty sure this is the real reason so many car people are anti-popular thing and if you deny it you are lying.
