The worst part was when she suddenly could use the force in ways that only Jedi with years of training could do in about an hour.

You mean the part where she's able to deflect blaster bolts shot from a training orb after a two minute pep talk? Let's be honest here, the amount of training needed to use the force (like way too many other things in these movies) is all over the loving place depending on the requirements of the plot

There's some schadenfreude for me that the SW threads are bringing out people who claim to have "liked" the movie, but then go on to write multi-paragraph screeds that show that, no, they did NOT like the movie. Especially fun are the glad-they-wiped-the-EU-out-of-"canon" vs. they-totally-should-have-kept-and-used-EU slap fights.

For context, a lot of the same anti-feminist/MRA/Gamergate cockwombles who got all pissy over Fury Road having a kickass woman in it are currently all raging over The Force Awakens having a kickass woman in it. Not really a great moment to try and have a discussion about if she's too kickass when you have people like "literally a rapist" Roosh declaring the film to be anti-men.

I get what you're saying, but if not immediately after the film comes out, when is a good time to discuss it? In six months, when nobody cares any more?

Spoilered because episode VII:

In contrast I left Episode VII hoping that Kylo Ren is actually NOT the villain for the rest of the series - that he's more of a slightly extended Darth Maul and gets killed off quickly in the VIII. He was straight up bumbling in places and that made him kind of a weak villain. The stuff with Rey just sort of compounds it. He's had all this training and is all "you need a teacher - let me teach you!" during the light saber duel - which is literally her first time lighting up a saber - and she's basically winning. That line sounded so stupid since she was basically kicking his rear end already.

Also spoilered because episode VII:

I think that was the point of him, actually. He's trying so hard to be Vader that it eventually backfires on him. Hopefully in Episodes 8-9 he becomes the villain he's supposed to be.

I kind of want him to be redeemed and retrained in the next one. He's just too much of a dweeby fuckup to be a great sinister figure or whatever like he wants to be.

I interpreted it that The Force itself is taking a big poo poo on him for thinking he's captain fancy with his needless mask and all. "gently caress you, I'm going to divine intervention up in here and have this girl pack your poo poo in"

I would say however long it takes for the next vagina-of-the-week to move into the bullseye of those foul types to focus their "women are what's wrong with men" ire. THEN we can breakdown and criticize the female lead character without fear of being lumped in with them.

And Landis isn't wrong. The new movie will lose it's luster on multiple viewings.

It made half a billion dollars in its first weekend and set at least a dozen new box office records and a good chunk of those sales would have been people going back a second or third time. Looks like people like it just fine after multiple viewings!

There you go. Dom/Sub stuff is so serious. Doesn't anyone have fun being a smart rear end and egging the Dom on? Making them lose their poo poo? Maybe turn the tables on them?

Not only does this poo poo look painful the whole attitude is painfully boring.
