Cat Face Joe posted:I've got my first tourney on Sunday. Here's my list, all criticisms are welcome. Other models I have available are Joan, a father knight, another fusilier, and a boarding shotgun ORC. I think you want to try for 10 models, especially if you're including an AD troop and/or want the option to start the Croc Man in hidden deployment. - Croc man as minelayer is not a bad idea, but the Croc man is actually the best specialist and best offensive hacker you've got, and should be kept in. - I would rethink the fusilier hacker, I don't think a non-assault hacking device brings much, except controlling the Akali's combat jump, which is often a waste of an order rather than just taking the risk, or using AD2 to walk the Akali on. - Try making the Auxilia into FOs, which works really well with their HFT bots, and gain the points by deploying unupgraded fusiliers. This throws a bit of confusion on who your Lt is. - Your spec ops is all over the place. An EXP CCW is a waste, on a model without the skills to get into close combat or to necessarily win once he's in there. Inferior infiltration and hacking device are both decent ideas, but a multirifle is very situational over a combi - perhaps a more close range weapon like a shotgun to complement his role as an aggressive infiltrating specialist?

That Achilles is as scary as every, in one way I'd prefer to face it over the ODD version, but ODD can be dealt with via flamethrower; mimetism is permanent. Cat Face Joe posted:OK, updated per the suggestions. Only issue now is I have 202 points and I can't find a place to cut them. Any ideas? That sounds like a much better idea for a Spec Ops. Is there a cheaper Akali option? Shotgun or something?

So he's slightly less dodgy (Kinematika L1 instead of L2) and has Mimetism instead of ODD, which makes him easier to hit but also makes him way less vulnerable to a random suicide grunt with a flamethrower (because Mimetism doesn't burn off and ARM 6 means a better chance of not eating a wound than ARM 4 against a FT/HFT), and he can be fit into any list which can fit Original Flavor Achilles in. Beautiful.

I love the idea that no matter who Achilles is fighting or where he is in the Human Sphere, he always brings that one severed Morat head with him to wave at the enemy while he screams at them. Like, everyone else in Steel Phalanx loving hates it because it's all rotten, decomposed and stinks, but Achilles doesn't care because he needs something nasty to wave angrily at the other guys.

Played my first tournament yesterday. Three rounds, quadrant control, capture the antenna, and anhilliation. 1st round was definitely my best. For the first time I really felt like I was in control of my squad. I'd never hacked anything before but his TAG came so close to my camo croc man hacker I had no choice but to ask the ref how to do it. Rolled a critical and stopped it cold. Later I managed to smoke three of a five man fire team with a shotgun blast from an AD Sikh commando. Ultimately lost but it was close. 2nd round started out well for me but then became a hard stalemate for the central antenna. I used my croc man hacker to drop a mine near it and then recloak. In order to take it I had to move to the other side of it so I'd be out of his TAG's lof. I make the move and I'm about to take the antenna when my opponent says to hold on and places a TO marker right next to me. My cloaked hacker had bumped into his HD cloaked Oniwaban. We call the ref over and after a lot of discussion and rule checking he declares that we both decloak and are in CC. Of course my hacker is destroyed immediately. My Auxilia and his bot fire at him and he dodges both, moving closer and putting him in range of my spec ops who finished the job. We end up tied 3 to 3. 3rd round I went against an Ariadna squad who rushed me with wolf men and I was quickly overrun. He also managed to get both his classifieds completely wrecking me 10 to 0. Had a great time, looking forward to the upcoming escalation league.

One of my regular opponents keeps forgetting that you cant use minelayer to cover my poor Foxtrots in mines before the game beings. Really Enjoying my time with USAriadna so far. My Devil Dog either rampages across the board in a murder spree or makes the sound of a wet fart and dies. However I looked on Angels blog and he teased about a new Morat model he was painting so I think it's almost time to bust out the Red Angry Monkey Patrol. Gotta get some playtime with those sweet sweet Rodoks!

So, over the holidays one of my gifts was the USAriadna Army Pack. I'm going to be building it over the next couple weeks, but in the meantime, what are some good resources for someone new to Infinity? I've been looking around the wiki and reading the rules online, but was hoping there were some other things. Especially podcasts to have going while I build the minis. Or good battle reports on youtube or something like that. Also, does it work to proxy minis from 40k for Infinity? Like, for just a couple of games? I have a friend who has shown interest in wanting to start it with me, but doesn't have the money right now to jump in. He does have a huge Tau army though that he could use. I am sure it isn't ideal, but will it cause huge issues with LOS or something? Really, any general advice for starting Infinity would be appreciated as well.

Since infinity uses standardized silhouette templates as long as the models are on the correct sized bases it shouldn't be much of an issue. As far as batrep videos the only ones I really know about are the ones Beasts of War did back with one of the Infinity game creators for the USAriadna release. Beasts also has lots of tactics videos that will probably help you out. And with podcasts the only one I really listen to is Mayacast, mostly for the scenario discussions. Beasts of War USAriadna 300 point batrep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxzu7MRK-H8 http://mayacast.com/ If you find USAriadna fun don't be afraid to "borrow" models from general Ariadna or even other factions to fill out your limited model selection pool, I've got the female Hunzakut on the way that I am planning on just swapping out her space AK for a Ariadna space Galil. Oh, and the cardstock terrain packs Corvus has are really great for filling out a table while getting started, your US box should have one in it already so I would recommend picking up another terrain pack to decently fill out a table

GMG has a bunch of Infinity bat reps. Just look up Radio Free Neoterra on Youtube and you'll have a bunch of material to play while you assemble stuff. I prefer listening to podcasts while I model stuff. But I think if you're (an even greener) newb than I am it many may not benefit you as much as watching people play. But mayacast is a good one. I also enjoy Personal Flash Paper. PFP is more for tournament prep though a lot of games use ITS - the tournament system for balance.

Also, once you've played a few timers, I highly recommend the 20x20 mission system (which you can find on the Infinity Forums, and probably also through Google). They are nicely balanced and all but a handful of the primary and secondary objectives are very beginner friendly. Getting yourself used to objective-based play from the beginning will help if you want to play competitively later. It's also just more fun and interesting than "kill 'em all" games.

So the new rules for the Tohaa beasts are out. Pretty loving sweet, with a fairly standard LI (but bullshit Tohaa unhackable 2-wound LI) and 1 shooting or 1-2 CC beasts accompanying as G:Synchronized. I have to say, looking at the CC beasts especially (V:Dogged, excellent CC with viral CCW, 6-4 MOV) I sometimes wonder how long Infinity can maintain its reputation for good balance. As the community becomes larger and its groupthink more efficient, I can see certain strategies and better/worse units emerging as the conventional wisdom. When I started a few years ago you would commonly be told 'the models you take don't matter, they're all good and you can win with whatever'. Nowadays, due to more knowledge, more unit variety, and maybe the excellence of certain options - admittedly every faction has some of these, and none of them are invincible in the way some units in other games are - I can look at an opponent's open list and say whether he really understands the game or not. (Still a well balanced game overall)

When I see 14+ models, covering every major role, I know that poo poo is going to go down. Doubly so if there are obvious holes that would be filled by camo or AD units. When someone brings a ~10 models list with multiple overlapping expensive troops, I know that they're new.

Why is Symbiote Armor so aggressively costed when compared to NWI? Both have similar vulnerabilities - I'd even argue that Shock weapons are more deadly than Flame in N3.

Shock weapons don't work on NWI models with 2 wounds, while SA is consistent. Maybe the pricing doesn't adequately reflect how different NWI works depending on base wounds. As that is the big complaint about the gorgos.

At least Tohaa get that pokemon thing which eats the first hit (often not enough to save them). I have to say I think Symbiont armour is less a big deal for the heavies, as good as the effective 3W is, and more a bonus for the fairly cheap models with 2W - a point or 2 of ARM/BS is a pretty good price to pay for super-budget 2W models, which usually don't exist outside of warband/HI hybrids with exclusively template weapons.

Viral still works good on NWI though, which helps Tohaa out a lot. Symbiont armor also tends to drop a units stats once it drops off, not making them useless, but definitely another downside when compared to NWI.

Speaking of Achilles, I played my third game of Infinity against Aleph. The list didn't have Achilles, but it did have Phoenix and my Father-Knight managed to eat a rocket to the face and survive! Yay! Other highlights include my opponent hitting my Lieutenant with an adhesive launcher and then figuring "yeah - he's incapacitated enough" before moving on to try and kill more threatening things. My Sikh Commando sticking his landing before going on a shotgun rampage. He was cremated by some sort of HFT wielding droid. An Aleph doctor killing himself with his auto medkit. And my Father-Knight saying "gently caress it" before making the Hail Mary play up the gut to chop a sniper to pieces in the last turn. This guy hadn't played in a while, and I'm still green as they come. So we just decided to kill each other and see what was left after three turns. I think I would have won if we had gone by value of what was killed, but in terms of total kills we were only at three kills for me and two kills for him (with on more unconscious). Aleph seem like they have a lot of sneaky tricks. I was a little upset by the amount of MSV2 they had negating my freshly painted Hexas (with a sniper rifle, that I used as a Combi rifle and hacking device). I enjoyed my first three intro games with PanO and now am looking to break out my recently painted Nomads for a test drive. All my games thus far have been learning games with no real objectives. How does this look in terms of being Babies First ITS list? These are all the models I have - and I'm not above proxying them as other things. Nomads ────────────────────────────────────────────────── Group 1 9 0 0 IGUANA HMG, Heavy Flamethrower / . (2 | 71) SPEKTR Hacker (Assault Hacking Device) Combi Rifle / Pistol, Knife. (12) 6 SWC | 299 Points Open with Army 5 I guess the one thing about this list is that it should be really simple to figure out who the lieutenant is. On the flip side - it seems like I'm the only one at this FLGS that comes to Infinity nights and is using models from Operation IceStorm. So maybe it's not rear end obvious as I think it is?
