The desire for control entailed by this hyperproduction of fetishes (in the anthropological sense of the word) is very interesting. The increase in production of votive statuary in the fertile crescent during periods of drought and infertility comes to mind.

Ancient agricultural communities were existentially dependent upon forces of nature over which they had no control. A common interpretations of be use of religious statuary is that it served to make a particular cosmic force seem tangible, often in anthropomorphic form, granting the worshipper relief from anxiety by the illusion of control created by the successful containment of the transcendent.

If we consider the ego to stand in a similar relation to the internal psychology of desire (in the Lacanian sense), that is, to be exposed to incommensurate forces that require the creation of fantasies of control, then it seems that the prismatic shattering of the objet petit a into neatly colour-coded waifus is nothing more than a polytheism of capitalism.

Also, Japan is the largest concentration of virgin adults in human history.

I realise you're being sarcastic but I just want to briefly note how loving infuriating it is that so many academics use lengthy sentences to avoid stating clear positions or arguments or even asking an actual question instead favouring a style where people vaguely and airily express that they've thought of things or that something was notable or that it was interesting or whatever rather than "I approve of this stance, do you think it has something to do with this?".

Like mammoth caves deserted now for eons long past number,
the gee dub stores yawn empty in their hollow, quiet slumber.
Time was they dotted landscapes like great temples on the hills,
where worshippers found war and peace (and paints and bikes and tills).
But that was long ago, before the layoffs took command,
and ev'ry living creature was cast out upon the land.
Today a peddler may pass by, decrepit and obscure,
with packs of brushes, ribbons gay, or plastic model lure.
Box army sales are as rare as polar ice in June;
the basics are produced by tribal labor and commune.
Consumers died out long ago, conspicuous or not;
the roaming herds of red shirts are long gone . . . but not forgot.

I successfully watched episode 3 of Vifam.

Things go from bad to worse for the Jenius.

They can't make contact with the closest human space station, near the planet Beruike, but chalk it up to the confusion of the evacuation. The ship has ten actual crewmen on board, so they draft all the adults to help out. The professor and his blonde wife work on the bridge, some of the others man the guns, etc. Meanwhile, the kids get to know each other a little better. They berate the oldest, 15 year old Scott, into going to sign up to help too. But aliens attack, and all the older kids are made to man computer stations on the bridge, so the crewmen can take out their robots and space fighter plannes to fight the aliens. The younger kids get scared and join the older kids on the bridge. The aliens start tearing poo poo up. Shooting down robots and blowing more holes in the ship. The dudes sent to man the guns?

the other un-named adults?

Yeah. The ships computer, considering the rate of loss and the approaching alien ship, spits out a 0.29 percent of survival. So, outside the ship, there's only three robots left fighting, including one piloted by the Lieutenant, who was acting as captain. He orders the other two back to the ship, activates the self destruct countdown on his robot, and flies right at the alien ship. He blows it up, and the Jenias can get away.

After the battle, they're able to make radio contact with another evacuation ship. This other ship confirms that at least one of the kid's parents survived, cheering her up but making the other kids fear for their own families. The other ship also confirms that they haven't been able to make contact with the Beruike station either. They then have to cease communication, cause they're about to be attacked by aliens

All told, the only survivors from the most recent attack on the Jenias are the professor and his blonde wife, the ten kids who were on the bridge, and the two crewmen who were on the robots ordered back. And they're going to a space station that was probably blown up by aliens.

With all the extras gone, everybody but the two surviving crewmen have names and unique character designs, so I guess this is the cast for the foreseeable future. The growing sense of dread is great. I am very excited to watch more of Round Vernian Vifam.

Y'all outchya drat minds on this Guardians versus TFA thing, just sayin'

TFA is basically the most conservative movie ever. It's competent, but takes almost no risks. GoG had set-pieces like inside a giant space head and ended the climax with a dance battle .

Like Guardians of the Galaxy had almost no pre-established movie fanbase, and managed to wow everyone. That's incredibly hard to do these days. While TFA basically banked on nostalgia for 80% of its script. There's just no comparison.
