Like, what's a vector? When are vector's useful? Well they're used all the time in games and things like the angle between two vectors, dot products, and cross products, and then matrices, all of this is used all the time in graphics and gaming.

The only time I remember seeing vectors before college is in Physics. Most of that other stuff is also college level work.

Math doesn't need to be directly applied to something else to be rewarding and useful, it just needs to be taught well, and not just memorizing algorithms without payoff. Read that Lockhart essay.

Trying to find the right application to get every kid enthusiastic about math is a futile effort. We already do that in a half-assed way with lame word problems. Appeals to gaming engines makes sense to the nerd on SA, but it should be immediately obvious how silly that is when you start considering the entire student population instead.

Not a God drat chance in hell. The court will have to roll with 8 this year. The next president will pick.

What this means though, is any cases which were going to be 5-4 conservative decisions but not released yet might be toast, while cases which were fated to be 5-4 liberal decisions this year would survive as 5-3 now.
