On the surface, that's some freeman on the land level poo poo, but because nearly everything in politics and law is a social construct, sometimes stunts like that can work, not in the immediate term, but in the long term because they make people think.

That's the most charitable reading that I can give to a lot of that stuff.

On the other end of the scale, some of it is just a cynical scam perpetuated on people who are genuinely being hosed over by the system by selling them a 900 page 'legal' pack filled with a lot of boat references that will claim to rid them of fines or unpayable debt.

The difference between the Emily Davison thing and the Libertarian stuff is she was trying to affect important social stage whereas the latter just normally want to get out of speeding tickets or child support.

Edit: 11 is the fourth Sophie Germain prime and the 3rd safe prime. A Sophie Germain prime is one where 2p+1 is prime and a safe prime is the result of 2p+1 in a Sophie Germain prime.

wouldn't that be money laundering?

I mean what you've described is literally trading old games/phones/stolen goods for an untraceable currency held offshore, but I don't know if the British courts have bothered to figure out if Bitcoin is actually a currency. The yanks certainly consider this money laundering.
You can trade whatever for whatever as long as you provide a receipt. And ID from an approved list for transactions over a certain value.

I could run a market stall and decide that I'm only going to accept gold bullion in exact weights as barter (as long as all negotiation is before the sale, it's different for settling a tab after purchase), but I'd need to keep a ledger of transactions and their equivalent value in pounds sterling, and if I've made over a certain amount per tax year I'd have to pay taxes in pounds sterling, and if someone wanted to make a transaction over a certain value I'd need to verify their identity and keep a copy for a period of time, like cash for gold places do.

Kim Philby: I got away with treachery 'because I was upper class'

quote:

Kim Philby, Britain’s most notorious cold war traitor, told an audience of East German spies after his defection that he was able to avoid being rumbled for so long because he had been “born into the British governing class”.

In a video recording of a speech given to Stasi agents in 1981, uncovered by the BBC, Philby also described how he was able to walk out of secret service headquarters every night with his briefcase stuffed with secret documents and reports.

The overall impression given by the excerpts of Philby’s speech broadcast so far by the BBC is of a British intelligence service staffed by ill-disciplined and inept upper-class twits.

In one telling anecdote, Philby recounted how he was able to escape after being rumbled as a traitor in Beirut because the agent sent to keep an eye on him could not resist going skiing after hearing that fresh snow had fallen on the Lebanese mountains.

Philby says in the video: “Because I had been born into the British governing class, because I knew a lot of people of an influential standing, I knew that they would never get too tough with me.

“They’d never try to beat me up or knock me around, because if they had been proved wrong afterwards, I could have made a tremendous scandal.”

Yeah its not just "someone" though, is it. It's his dead father and given how western society works he probably inherited some money and maybe even some shady financial arrangements off him.

Fortunately he has cleared the whole issue up by issuing an immediate definitive denial and not eg using the sort of weaselly "it's a private matter" non-denial which might sow seeds of doubt re his tax arrangements.

I might be concerned that Corbynite blinding aggression and deafening volume would override sense if this was shortly before the next General Election but as it stands 4 1/2 years is plenty of time for the Corbynites to drive themselves into the ground. If Corbyn loses in 2020 then left-wing politics will be fully discredited, the Blairite post-GE claim that British elections are won in the centre will be definitvely proven, and the socialist cancer consuming the country will go into remission for another generation.

as for why he's not on the front page, because having an offshore account is not a crime. You'd need to do a lot more than a years lawyer work to figure out if he's done anything wrong; whereas the icelandic PM denied personally knowing anyone at board level in any company, despite his wife having £4m or so in the banks he bailed out. There's a slight difference between filing your records in a dodgy way and lying under oath. I understand you have difficulty grasping detail, but do keep up.

absolutely nothing will happen to Cameron as you'd need to go tooth and comb through his entire financial history to find wrongdoing, and anyone capable of doing that is not going to be interested in charging the prime minister with tax avoidance. If there's any evidence, GCHQ will know, and they will hide it. For journalists and the public, we have absolutely no way of knowing if his records are clean, because the police aren't going to go "oh that sounds a laugh, let's call in the lawyers and cuff him".

Side note: he's a dirty pigfucker and he's not going to be clean. Tony Blair started a crusade and nothing will ever happen to him, so tax dodging is small potatoes.

Kapo, the actual details are being released in May. Nobody has anything. The journalists you're claiming don't have anything legal to go with are in the process of finalising these legal details and are building media attention before they do this. Your argument is idiotic to an incredible extent.

e; I don't even know what your argument is. Obviously Cameron hasn't comitted a crime. That's the whole loving point of Mossack-Fonsecas operation. If your point is "Cameron did nothing wrong", he failed to disclose his father dodged taxes by banking with nazis, a fairly relevant thing for someone with security clearance. You are staggeringly stupid.

a) The FIRST of the documents were provided to SDZ one year ago. They continued to compile documents prior to announcing the leak so as to not scare the company into tightening security. This is not the same as having all the documents in a readable format for a whole year. All of what I just said is in that link you provided. It also points out the time-consuming period of OCR-ing the whole lot.

b) Like with the Snowden leaks, the Graun may well be spacing the stories out so that important stories aren't lost in the cascade.

It's interesting but not particularly surprising - it's the conclusion Peter Wright and the Young Turks came to in the 1970s in their mole hunts after Philby's defection. Don't worry though, they promptly abandoned the Old Boy Network method of recruitment and went to open advertisement for posts... in 1996.

Philby's always been one of the most interesting figures of the Cold War though - there's a reason he's been the basis of the main character in some of the best (and worst) spy novels and films ever written, and it's well worth reading Ben McKintyre's A Spy Among Friends or Philby's own (obviously rather self-serving and self-aggrandizing) autobiography.
