Z3n posted:K bikes had some transmission issues. Look out for that. Something about the clutch basket not letting the plates separate. Basically, there's like 6 plates in there, but only one ever wears, the others just stay together. Oh, exploding 1st (or last) cylinder issues due to oil routing. All the dirty clutch oil got pumped into the cyl closest to the clutch. After bro-ing out with a BMW specialist who has an unhealthy love of these bikes, I'm pretty sure I'd never so much as look at one sideways.

Yeah by all accounts you want a ZRX, ticks all your boxes.

I had a choice between a 919 and a ZRX. I made the wrong decision. Don't be like me.

919 is great. Have you considered that it is you who is bad?
|
|
# ? Apr 14, 2016 04:56 |
Well the ergonomics feel bad and wrong in every way despite, paradoxically, having that honda ease of use, been on it a million times sensation. So it could quite well be me who is bad, or at least badly shaped.

Point is while a 919 is great the ZRX 1200 is objectively the greatest motorcycle of all time.

Need some help from riders in the UK: - New A licence holder - No significant experience riding (thank you for the direct entry, motorbike school) I'm a responsible adult looking for a commuting machine (London) that I can wring out on weekends. Naturally, insurance companies take a dim view to someone with no riding experience getting anything with more power than a lawnmower, especially with zero NCD. So I'm looking for goon advice: - Something not boring - That's cheap (£2500 or less) so I can just carry TPO and not cry too much if it gets stolen (will still cry) - That I won't immediately outgrow I've been hunting around in the CB500 / SV650 category but I'm having trouble finding something affordable that I can trust to not be a total pile (e.g. mainly looking at dealership ads) Advice? Someone want to sell me a bike??

Had mine for years before it got stolen, but I parked it not chained to anything for years before the scrotes finally took notice. Will do 90+ easy at full tuck on the motorway (it will max out over 100), light and agile for city use. Cheap insurance. Taught me more about riding than I ever learned on a bigger, faster, heavier bike. Yamaha MT-03 is also very similar, but with a bit less in the way of features.

R1200GS makes a good sport tourer with leg room even if it's way too nerdy. A Buell Ulysses will give you gravity defying handling but less ponies (will still cruise triple digits all day if you ride in Wyoming).

Speaking of the ZRX, how does it compare to the CB1100? I've wanted a ZRX since I was a kid, but ever since the CB came out I've been kind of torn between the two.

As Nero Danced posted:Speaking of the ZRX, how does it compare to the CB1100? I've wanted a ZRX since I was a kid, but ever since the CB came out I've been kind of torn between the two. The CB1000 is like a 4 cylinder cruiser with a lot less power than the rex as stated, and they're almost totally different despite having a 'similar configuration' on paper. The ZRX is meant to alternate between being thrashed while you laugh hysterically and gliding along like a huge motorised rear end massager. The CB is designed for I guess riding around kind of slowly meeting nice people or whatever, like a harley style cruiser but with no cultural baggage. cb1100 makes 80-something horse and hits peak torque at like 3k rpm. Combined with plush suspension and relaxed ergonomics, it has more in common with Concourse, the touring version of ZRX. Great bike for cruising and long distance travel, don't get it for canyon carving. Edit: I'm not kidding about that torque curve Nitrox fucked around with this message at 04:58 on Apr 15, 2016 |

I'm really enjoying my VFR800 while somewhat regretting not holding out a few months and snagging some of these "2014 for $8k new off the lot" deals I keep seeing even if adding in the luggage like I got with my used bike would put it back up to almost $10k right off the bat.

Wow, I didn't realize just how relaxed the CB1100 is- it really isn't in the same class as the ZRX at all, and if I'm honest its more my kind of bike. Thanks for the info.

This will probably get me banned, but I don't think I can deal with the looks of a ZRX. The shape and color just scream 80's at me, and having actually lived through them I have no desire to revisit them. The Uly is a cool idea, but I never know how serious people are about Buells. It would definitely be unique, which I like... but there aren't any on Craigslist near me. Also looking into the Bandit 1250s, since that seems more sporting than dual sport and has a more standard seating positioin. They're also fairly cheap, and it looks like ABS was an option on some of them, so that's another bonus. There's one by me that already has side cases for $5k with about 17k miles on it. I don't know what the longevity of them is, so I'll have to look into that. Speaking of ABS, I think that more research on the K-bikes has scared me off. I know that the internet is only for bitching, but the number of people with bad ABS modules - some which are only available from the dealer at $3000 - is just a bunch of bullshit that I don't want to deal with. Rear drive recalls seem common too, and the only service manuals available are CDs from the dealer. Thanks for all the suggestions tho. I really appreciate it.

After the nuclear apocalypse, the only motorcycles still running will be bandits, in case you were curious about their longevity and dependability.

The guy I bought my multi from in the UK had a side business stripping wrecked BMWs for their expensive components, mainly ABS modules. He had a tidy eBay business going and was going to move up north and go full time with it.

Not to mention if an apocalypse happens the majority of bikes are EFI already so spares will be plentiful and a lot less fiddly to replace.

3 jets and a couple screws is a lot easier for a lot of people to wrap their minds around than MAP and VE and lambda and open loop and closed loop and drivers and what do you mean I need a computer near the motorcycle? That thing is full of viruses why would I hook it up to my bike? That's asking for trouble.
