in my opinion, Tomb of the Mutilated is their masterpiece. Start with that one. Then check out Butchered at Birth. The Corpsegrinder records are okay, but the Barnes era is their best stuff.

This is just like, my opinion, man. Some of the fast poo poo sucks, and some of the really slow stuff sucks even harder but I feel that a lot of the medium tempo stuff is just tepid and lacking of any real feeling. It's not a hard fact but just my opinion that metal should be as hyperbolic as possible, particularly being extremely fast and/or extremely slow, but that shouldn't be the only thing of note for bands to strive to achieve.

In 1996, Cradle of Filth released its much-loved record Dusk.. And Her Embrace, but did you know that what you're hearing isn't actually the original version of that record? The record was originally recorded in 1995 and was called The Original Sin, but lawsuits and a band split caused the record to never be released in its original format… until now.

quote:

YOU CAN'T STOP THE ROCK!!!

Cradle Of Filth begin writing for their next album (due date Autumn 2017e.h) over the next few months, and the band are intrigued as to what fans are expecting/keen on, both in direction, theme and sound.

Obviously we're going to partially ignore the naysayers who want everything to sound exactly like Cradle 1996 -the never-before-released version of 'Dusk.. And Her Embrace' subtitled 'The Original Sin'(1995) is out in July via Cacophonous Records, by the way- but everything will be taken onboard, baring in mind that people understand that the band is Cradle Of Filth 2016, and one that will be expanding on the continued success of last year's 'Hammer Of The Witches'.

And we are definitely curious, so please fire away…

On another tract, please also vote for us to be crowned best UK band (see elsewhere on this page) in this year's Metal Hammer Golden Gods awards categories and save the world from the usual expected fare!

If you like a more modern dm sound, try Bloodthirst. It's one of those albums that people love even if they're not giant CC fans. You could probably take 2 or 3 songs from every album since then and make one great CC album, but on Bloodthirst they were nailing everything perfectly. "Pounded Into Dust" is one of the best openers.

(When I say "modern" I don't mean techy or overly produced stuff. Bloodthirst has a terrific sound.)

Vile is a solid album and I hear their newest is Vile-esque, but really best to stick with Suffocation's material up through Despise the Sun, if you want some classic brutal death with good songwriting.

2/3 of the classic Welcome to Hell/Black Metal lineup - Abbadon (drums) and Mantas (guitars) - fronted by Demolition Man, who replaced Cronos for Prime Evil. Having seen both, Venom Inc was much, much better.

Venom plays a bunch of medleys and stuff from the last few albums they did, along with the essentials from the early works. Cronos works the crowd 80s style, which works quite well considering they've got the stature and pretty much only play festivals. Nothing against the other guys, they play fine, but they're passengers and don't do anything for the stage show nor interact with the crowd nor the band at all. Not bad, but in contrast to the other one, they're very much lacking. They feel like a burned out, filled out, old band.
Setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/venom/2013/former-sonar-compound-baltimore-md-13d9a579.html

Venom Inc plays Prime Evil, Warhead, Die Hard, and the rest from Welcome to Hell and Black Metal. Basically, the ideal Venom setlist. Demolition Man is so drat gritty he's almost too dirty for Venom, and he's got such a heavy English accent you can hardly understand a word he says between songs. He's a solid frontman. Mantas works the crowd, too, and in a much less over-the-top way. Very appropriate for Venom, but a bit less retro than Cronos. The thing with this band is that they really work well together, they've got energy on the stage, they go back and forth between songs, they do everything well. The guy who really impressed me was Abaddon. He's got so much energy and enthusiasm on stage, he plays great and hits hard, but that's like second nature. He goes back and forth with the crowd, does call-and-response gestures, and he just really gets into it with the crowd. Not just stage moves, he's loving it when people run into each other around the guy holding a cup of beer in the middle of the crowd, laughing when someone slips on that guy's beer, shouting back with the people shouting to him. He hung out in the bar after the show until closing time, recounting the show with everyone who stayed around. The only other guy who I've seen have the pulse of the band and the crowd was Jim Konya.

Yeah I've got all of Suffo's albums, although Souls to Deny is probably my favorite overall album. There was something about the production and guitar tone that I really liked. There's something about their current (and most new DM) production that seems really grating IMO.

For me there's a middle ground between the current production trend and the really thin sounding stuff like Deicide's album Legion (only album I've listened to of theirs and the first example that came to me).
