"To be quite frank, Platinum sucks at making games. Vanquish was terrible and Metal Gear Rising: Revengance was so boring it put me to sleep."

The new Mogwai is indeed very good. I bought it today. Although I like a few tracks on Revenants, Hardcore and Hawk, I like Atomic much more as an album. Not sure why. Oh, and Rave Tapes rocks also.

E: Well, it helps that are no sung vocals on any tracks. I always skip those on Mogwai albums (and the new Tortoise one). They are cruddy. Tracks with sampled spoken vocals are fine. I don't mind/actually like vocals on other kinds of music but with post-rock I always like those less - or actually dislike them. Any idea why that might be?

E2: There's a vocal track on Rave Tapes but I skipped it, it seems. Still think it is a great album.

So Ive been incredibly out of the post-rock loop for awhile.

Can anyone give me a general summary of good new stuff, new bands that are getting big and new stuff from more established bands?

Ive got the new Caspian and been listening to the new EITS but I feel like Ive missed a whole lot, especially seeing here that Yndi Halda is back.

I really need some good new post-rock in my life.

last years God is an Astronaut album was heavier than normal and pretty dang good

Atomic is the first Mogwai album since Happy Songs that just doesn't do it for me. Needs a re-listen (Rave Tapes was a slow grower), but I wasn't impressed in the slightest (among a year of very good post-rock).

That being said, I saw them live two years ago and it was close to a religious experience.

Then I saw GY!BE in a church this year and I pretty much could just get struck by lightning and be like "yeah, whatever, hope I die, everything was good enough."

Well considering everyone in the thread has been loving Atomic and I remember multiple goons in the thread saying Happy Songs was their favourite... Atomic isn't actually that great, it's pretty good though. It's inherently limited as a soundtrack, but it's a drat good soundtrack.

Maybe watch the film it was scored for? Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise from the BBC4 Storyville series.

I don't know if this was just for the venue where I saw them or they're bringing these on tour with them, but their visuals were dope. They had these sets of fast-moving color-changing LED lights that appeared to be like a sheet of color in front of the band. They definitely didn't have those the last 2 times I saw them, and they weren't at other shows I've seen at this venue either, so I guess that's the lighting rig for this tour.

i'm pretty sure the light show is their doing, they did the same thing at the LA shows and my friend who saw them in Denver said they did it there too. it was my first time seeing them and it was an incredible experience.

I was there and confirm it was amazing and one of the best EITS shows I've seen. If I had one complaint it's that the light show wasn't as cool looking as I'd hoped... but that's about it.
