Turns out last episode didn't matter at all Random fight scene that ends with no relevance to the plot new character introduced then sidelined for several episodes

i watched all of season 3 in one go by the power of skipping around cuz I already knew all the plot beats so what the gently caress ever I think RWBY's problem is that it has a concept of coolness quota and as soon as you do a fight scene and do a bunch of cool stuff then it has to end immediately and unceremoniously like, every loving time also they stole from star wars four of all things

RWBY's other major problem is the pacing being completely and utterly hosed.

Though a few events here and there seemed kinda weird but make sense if a company wants full control of an IP. Covok posted:Who is Shane? Basically Monty's lead animator and some would say second in command.

It sounds like some of what we already knew; that Monty was an insane worker but that came at the expense of his work method being totally incompatible with people he hadn't either trained himself or spent a lot of time with. Stuff there about new software and networked drives rather than storing everything locally just sound like fairly normal things an entertainment company would do to try and standardise a department that had been on it's own little world for a long time. The rest looks like a man going through a very bad time shedding a lot of personal feelings.

Covok posted:Roosterteeth is a business. Surprised people don't realize that. Well Roosterteeth's strengths are pretending it's not. As is pretending Ruby being a love letter to anime action. I think it used to be and people overlooked the grit of it since it had that independent vibe attached via Monty.

The guy who wrote this letter seems to have some unresolved mental issues and likely blacklisted himself from working in animation. His own letter makes him sound insufferable to work with.

Yeah I imagine depression, divorce, and death of a friend would crack someone and most likely that's the cause of his departure. It sounds like they gave him a lot of chances too.

I think that's why they rewrote it to that instead of what was originally planned by Oum. Gotta give the writers at least some credit.

I read a couple bits and pieces last night and thought I was on his side, but after reading some comments here and looking again, I can see that there is fault on both sides. I didn't really watch after the terrible first season, but I remember after Monty's passing, they were very adamant about keeping Monty's vision alive. One thing I thought about back then was "what if Monty's vision isn't that great?" and it seems like it possibly might have been the case, which lead to some "creative differences" between the company and this guy. From the sounds of what I read, a lot of stuff that has happened that caused this rift was more heat of the moment decisions being made (changing scenes, rushing production, switching animation projects mid animation). It seems kind of lovely that RT didn't want Monty's wife involved at all the project, but maybe there was a reason for that that this guy didn't know about? I hate to say something terrible about this person who is obviously working through some stuff, but in rereading some of this later, it feels like he thought he was going to become Monty 2.0, and when it didn't happen, he thought that the company he worked for was betraying Monty

Explanation I've heard is that Monty's widow isn't with a voice actor union and that she was never that close with the business side of Rooster Teeth except through Monty.
