Vadoc posted:That is exactly how I always feel driving that ship as well, I thought it was because I was just lovely at it. The Myogi is utter crap out of the box but fully upgraded it could be somewhat decent if only it's dispersion wasn't so big. Long range, fast and somewhat nimble for it's size, decent health pool, spotter plane, all marred by a horrible accuracy. Hell, the Kawachi is a better ship in my opinion, since it's short range and bad accuracy is offset by it's toughness compared to it's peers, allowing it to drat the torpedoes and dive into a group for some brawling.

Dunkek feels like aggressive battlecruiser. 13 inch gun that has good pen and ok dispersion all mounted forward as 2 X 4 makes aggressive play rewarding as you'll stack up 75k+ damage in no time. However its relatively thin (225 mm) belt and 25 mm bow is problematic. Show broadside (though no reason to) and battleships can pen you even when angled, and show bow and those 15 inches will overmatch you. Also weak AA makes it easy target against CV. Compared to Shotgunhorst it has better guns but weaker self protection. It's an interesting ship in its own right, but it's not a solid ship.

I've come to the point now where I shame my team by publicly pointing out that my team apparently thinks this game's scoring system is similar to golf's. The first time I did this, my entire team went into a fomenting rage against of our remaining ships for being so bad. Since then, no response.

I'd like to offer the counter opinion and say that gold ammo has completely ruined both the World of Tanks metagame and the World of Tanks community, and we should be extremely suspicious if they introduce such a concept to Warships.

So yeah, I do think the warships team has been learning a lot from the tanks team. That said, they don't seem to have learned about t10 repair economy unlike tanks. Though, there isn't much point to driving t10s anyway since there isn't clanwars or anything to use them in. Edit: A fun game was had: Note the match up, it was wierd Replay: http://wowreplays.com/Replay/14727 After some futzing around and not getting anywhere, that storm crashing helped. I then proceeded to rake an enemy colorado shortly after the storm hits and just devestate him as I drive by launching torps and the hilarious amount of secondaries going off. Then I dodged some fletcher torps, spot the other colorado who then gets pummeled 6km out succumbing to my secondaries (lol 6km = close quarters now). I finally get killed off by the enemy sharn, but the damage was done to the team by then. JuffoWup fucked around with this message at 03:05 on Aug 23, 2016 |

I noticed that the cost of respec-ing my commander was going up the more skills I learned, and that's retarded.

Yeah, its dumb, but Wargaming's gotta nickel and dime you somewhere. Occasionally resets go on sale, but probably not soon, as they already had 2 sales and the skill reset bonus just recently.

Speaking of respecs; I've respecced my US DD captain from the Tier IV HP skill to DE. Let's see if I can stack some fires.

I don't even have any high skill commanders. My top tier ship is tier 5 at the moment. I just want to respec a couple commanders because when I was first starting out I accidentally took the bottom tier aircraft carrier-specific skill like an idiot, and it's annoying me. Guess that means I should do it sooner rather than later since it's just gonna cost more as my commanders get better.

Technicality question: can any national captain go in any premium ship, or is it also limited by ship class like in World of Tanks (e.g. trying to put my Yorck captain in a Scharnhorst would incur a penalty)?

Before they made sixth sense a permanent skill for everyone, running your DD captain through as many different premiums as possible was the way to get through retraining without subjecting yourself to tier 7+ battles without it, at least for poors like me who couldn't gold retrain.

I got my 2nd ever triple citadel last night. I was in a NY shooting a Kongo who was bow on and reversing. For some reason he started to turn and after waiting patiently he eventually revealed his entire broadside. The rest is obvious. This was the only gem of a night of ship driving ruled by pubbie stupidity. I think I won like 2 out of 12 games or something. Too lazy to look it up, but it was just not a good night. Oh, and I got detonated from full health in a NY by a random carrier torpedo. Fun times. Ice Fist fucked around with this message at 18:49 on Aug 23, 2016 |

I had a guy in a Mutsuki fail to ambush me (in the Scharnhorst) around an island. He dumped all his torps, but I had stopped. So a minute later he comes around the corner, misses all of his torps again, then rams himself into my bow at full speed. Except I think you can repair 100% of ramming damage, because I was back to near full-health a few minutes later. R.I.P. Vengarr fucked around with this message at 21:29 on Aug 23, 2016 |

There's RL precedent for that! The Samuel B. Roberts was a destroyer escort that basically made a suicide torp run on a heavy cruiser during the Battle Off Samar. quote:Roberts had moved so close that the enemy guns could not depress enough to hit her and the shells simply passed overhead. Many hit the carrier Gambier Bay. Once within torpedo range, she launched her three Mark 15 torpedoes. One blew off Chōkai's stern. The American sailors cheered "that a way Whitey, we hit 'em" as if it were a ballgame, as shells were still incoming. Roberts then fought with the Japanese ships for a further hour, firing more than six hundred 5 in shells, and while maneuvering at very close range, mauling Chōkai's superstructure with her 40 mm and 20 mm anti-aircraft guns. She did eventually sink, taking a few 14" shells. It was later known as "the destroyer escort that fought like a battleship." A good book on this battle is The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. I have it and highly recommend it.

She's tall by low tier standards, has only two guns (but they're big and are in real turrets), and most importantly can only hit 28.7 knots. All that and only one triple tube mount is tier 2 material. Tier 3 destroyers and a worrying number of cruisers can run her down or at least hold her in a fight for a long time.
