Auron posted:With Apple's iPhone upgrade plan, are you allowed to put money down to reduce the monthly payment, or do you have to do $0 down? Why would you pay extra into a program designed to let you trade in the device halfway through the payment plan? You'd be getting half the value of your upfront payment.

What? That just doesn't make any sense. Putting $200 down right away would be like paying $200 over a year...just with a lower payment. Its not like you're magically losing money when you trade in.

I feel like I'm considering a 7 Plus just because of the improved feature set and having a bigger screen is never a bad thing. I do have small hands though, so not sure if it would just irritate me in use. Anyone take the jump with similar concerns before? How did it turn out for you?

Its not like you're magically losing money when you trade in. The iPhone upgrade plan is a two year repayment schedule. So if you pay 200$ on 900$ then the payments will be 700 stretched over 2 years. If you pay nothing down on $900, it will cost 37.50 a month for 2 years If you pay $200 down on $900, it will cost $29.17 a month for 2 years After one year you can trade it in and begin your contract over again. So after 1 year with no down, you have paid in $450 After 1 year with $200 down you have paid in $350 in installments + $200 down = $550 total So yes, paying 200$ or whatever up front is literally throwing half of the down payment away.

I don't believe that's how it works, if so, anybody trading in their phone to start the upgrade program would be getting hosed. Wouldn't the extra paid in be rolled over into the next loan as a down payment, similar to an auto loan where you owe less than your trade in value? You can pay ahead, yes. Also, hello iPhone thread. The new 7 sucks, therefore you should buy my 6S. http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3789342

No, if you sign on for a new 24 month term, and return the device, Apple forgives the second 12 months of the first term.

I'd imagine we're not going to know for sure for two weeks, but is the fidelity of the audio at least any better over lighting? It always bothered me how bad the sound was on earpods.

Pack-in EarPods aren't nice headphones, so don't expect any different just because they're plugged into a different hole.

So essentially if you're planning on trading in the phone to Apple ASAP, it doesn't make sense to pay more than the minimum required payments. If you're planning on buying it straight-out when you upgrade to the new phone (so you can sell the old one independently), then sure, go ahead and pay more than the minimum requirement if you want. You're going to be paying full price at one point or another anyway.

They put $27 a month on your bill and then a $27 credit every month on your bill.

Right but it says the credit doesn't kick in for 2-3 cycles. Does the billing not kick in until then? That would be surprising.

For those not looking to take advantage of the Verizon trade-in deal (since apparently annual upgraders like me would forfeit half of the $650 credit), the My Verizon iOS app will already let you place preorders - all you have to do is go through the upgrade process as normal, and when selecting the new device press the search (magnifying glass) button. If you type in 'iPhone 7' or 'iPhone 7+' it will link you to the product page and let you proceed to checkout.
