Not really. they were stable at high speed. they also have low rear end floors and air suspension.

iirc it was a 455/th425 trans.

Yeah, I run 20/50 in Phoenix but I think routing the diesel heater exhaust onto the second oil cooler for cold weather preheat was a good idea.

Maybe one of those magnetic block heaters if I ever move back up north.

I used to run 20/50 in my big block Chrysler's back in the 80's (cars from the late 60's or early 70's). Actually sort of surprised you run them in yours, is it what was actually spec'ed for those old engines?

Supposedly, one of the reasons they built the Hurst Hairy Olds was to prove the Toronado transmission wasn't a weak point.

Wikipedia posted:

Hurst Hemi Under Glass is the name given to a series of exhibition drag racing cars campaigned by Hurst Performance between 1965 and 1975.

Each wheelstander was based on the current Plymouth Barracuda for the corresponding model year. The car was so named because the fuel injected Chrysler Hemi engine was placed under the Barracuda's exceptionally large rear window. The result of the rearward weight transfer was a "wheelie" down the length of the drag strip.

Beyond the usual nonsense people complain about FWD not really, probably didn't even have torque steer with the whole Toronado setup. I think it was done mainly for packaging. Was more just an interesting fact as I wasn't sure people were aware.

You'll miss the apex and push wide at the track.

Also, 2 rear axles like that will naturally resist turning, so where in snow/ice a 2 axle FWD vehicle is point and shoot with the front end dictating where you go, a loss of traction in one of those beasts means it's going dead straight, especially if you have any sort of weight in the back. trying to turn around on an icy parking lot means you have to feel out which way the wheels are pointing, and you're more making suggestions than giving direction.
