HorseRenoir posted:The Dems are so poison that they ran one of the most unpopular candidates ever and only lost by razor thin margins in three states and won the popular vote. Hell, Trump's approval rating will fall after four years of screwing up, and the electoral college will as likely be neutral or pro Dem as R+2 again. If Democrats ran Hillary 2.0 in 2020 they'd likely win by 3-4 points instead of by 2 nationally, win an EC landslide, and be hailed as triangulating geniuses. Wins and losses are dramatically overexplained.

Barely anyone voted. Just that fewer voted for Hillary than Trump. Don't let the media pretend that TRUMP is some MONSTROUS UNSTOPPABLE SUPERSTAR when no one really voted either to begin with.

quote:WASHINGTON—Saying the new effort would help them make critical inroads with low-income rural voters following a stunning election loss last week, the Democratic National Committee announced the launch of a new Hamilton-inspired web series Tuesday starring Lena Dunham intended to connect with working-class Americans and address their most pressing concerns. “We’re hoping to make up the ground we lost with white working-class voters and union members who once made up our base with a new 10-part hip-hop musical set in rural Wisconsin, featuring a down-on-her-luck manufacturing worker played by Lena Dunham,” said DNC interim chair Donna Brazile, who added that, in an effort to appeal to economically distressed voters, each episode would see the protagonists tackle a different theme, such as taxes or free trade, through the choreography of five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman. Grater posted:You are the one making the claim that thousands and thousands of voters switched from Obama to Trump. But again, look at the vote totals, they were down nearly across the board. Trump got fewer votes than the last two republican candidates. Yes, in some areas he did better than Romney or McCain but it was by small amounts and the overall trend had both candidates down. Haha okay, you can view the 16% <30k demographic change and flipped counties the way you want, but I don't think it's at all reasonable to believe thousands did not switch to Trump.

I think the issue is the campaign was perceived as talking only about racism and sexism because their economic message wasn't able to break through in this media cycle. But that's neither here nor there, so you'd contend the current DNC platform isn't neoliberal? I'm having trouble getting a clear and consistent definition of what part of the Democratic Party is too neoliberal and must be quashed and what isn't.
