The Dems are so poison that they ran one of the most unpopular candidates ever and only lost by razor thin margins in three states and won the popular vote.

Trump isn't Reagan, and it's really not that insurmountable to defeat him. Most the Dems' troubles are self inflicted and they can turn things around if they get their poo poo together.

Hell, Trump's approval rating will fall after four years of screwing up, and the electoral college will as likely be neutral or pro Dem as R+2 again. If Democrats ran Hillary 2.0 in 2020 they'd likely win by 3-4 points instead of by 2 nationally, win an EC landslide, and be hailed as triangulating geniuses. Wins and losses are dramatically overexplained.

Barely anyone voted. Just that fewer voted for Hillary than Trump. Don't let the media pretend that TRUMP is some MONSTROUS UNSTOPPABLE SUPERSTAR when no one really voted either to begin with.

WASHINGTON—Saying the new effort would help them make critical inroads with low-income rural voters following a stunning election loss last week, the Democratic National Committee announced the launch of a new Hamilton-inspired web series Tuesday starring Lena Dunham intended to connect with working-class Americans and address their most pressing concerns. “We’re hoping to make up the ground we lost with white working-class voters and union members who once made up our base with a new 10-part hip-hop musical set in rural Wisconsin, featuring a down-on-her-luck manufacturing worker played by Lena Dunham,” said DNC interim chair Donna Brazile, who added that, in an effort to appeal to economically distressed voters, each episode would see the protagonists tackle a different theme, such as taxes or free trade, through the choreography of five-time Tony winner Susan Stroman.

“We are confident that with the help of Josh Gad, Debra Messing, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and the creative team behind The Mindy Project, we can bring Americans who feel like they have been left behind by globalization back to the Democratic Party. Viewers will also have the chance to win a trip to be in the audience at a live TED Talk taping if they share the series on Instagram, which we believe will draw considerable interest across the nation’s heartland.” Brazile added that the web series would be available exclusively through Seeso and HBO Go.

You are the one making the claim that thousands and thousands of voters switched from Obama to Trump. But again, look at the vote totals, they were down nearly across the board. Trump got fewer votes than the last two republican candidates. Yes, in some areas he did better than Romney or McCain but it was by small amounts and the overall trend had both candidates down.

The point is, there was no giant rush of former Obama voters that switched to trump, maybe a few. If Clinton had gotten anywhere near what Obama had in the previous election we wouldn't be facing our first orange clown president.

Haha okay, you can view the 16% <30k demographic change and flipped counties the way you want, but I don't think it's at all reasonable to believe thousands did not switch to Trump.

Not much, but I do believe that talking nonstop about racism and sexism and nothing else is what lost Hillary the election? And that in order for people to not be sexist or racist anymore, you need to actually engage them and change their minds instead of just labeling them and assuming the label will make the problem go away? And then turning them into a boogie man for why you failed instead of accepting you failed and fixing what you did so you win the next one?

Yea, and for the past decade or more, democrats have historically made gains in both chambers of congress, because we usually get blown out of the water during the midterms. So no, this election left us totally defeated.

good question. here's some more questions:

a) did you vote for donald trump in the presidential election?
b) are you earnestly opposed to letting southern democrats vote in presidential primaries?

if no to both, then you are probably not a republican. if yes to either, then i regret to inform you that despite your best efforts you have become your parents

I don't think he was taking things particularly seriously, his rationale was "lol Hillary sucks and Trump is a clown but he's probably not gonna do all the bad poo poo he says he's gonna do", which I assume is the same rationale for a lot of crossover Trump voters or abstainers.

Why do you assume that's the problem, rather than, say, not campaigning enough in states like PA and WI?

I think the issue is the campaign was perceived as talking only about racism and sexism because their economic message wasn't able to break through in this media cycle.

But that's neither here nor there, so you'd contend the current DNC platform isn't neoliberal? I'm having trouble getting a clear and consistent definition of what part of the Democratic Party is too neoliberal and must be quashed and what isn't.
