It's because you have multiple groups using different languages to agree, making them think they disagree. Hell, 'liberal' has a different definition in basically every political philosophy.

there are about a dozen different reasons Hillary lost a really close election. the only reason this was even a close election at all and not a electoral landslide for the Democrats against a catagorically terrible person is because they ran Queen of Baggage, 2008's Leftovers and Corporate Shill Hillary Clinton.

IMO a lot of talk in this thread has been about economic policy and what we want to see from the democratic party on it because it was so very neglected during the general. Initially it just needed to be said because this was an autopsy thread, and the failure to properly address economic concerns was a major issue of the Clinton campaign and Obama years. It desperately needed (and still needs) to be emphasized lest it gets drowned out by people talking about Russia and Comey. There are definitely room for all conversations, but economic policy talk is one area that is badly needed now. I personally used to do more work/activism on transgender rights. I recognize people that have posted in this thread that have a strong distaste for us all. HB2 in North Carolina makes me sick, and I worry about the Republicans trying something nationwide, along with repealing a lot of smaller quality of life changes made under the Obama administration. But then again, over the last decade I have seen fellow friends make the career movement from college and grad school into couch surfing and prostitution, and just having a functional economy and social safety net has become the most pressing social concern to me.

Joementum posted:This is a problem larger than Hillary Clinton. Yes, the democrats have flat given up in a lot of states. The state of the party is shameful, and anyone who says otherwise is living in denial. We can't afford to just sit in a few cities and pretend everything's fine. They've lost the local and state government battles for decades and influential spokespeople don't seem to get that from the ground fuckin' up democrats need to get their asses in gear and do actual politics work. I wrote this back when the thread all seemed to understand this: Grondoth posted:Let's look at New York. Solid blue. The headquarters of the democratic candidate and new minority leader. The party should be vibrant and in control. This is their webpage. Slick enough, with the main draw being one or two sentences on their policies. Wanna get involved? Well, that's harder to figure out what to do. Although this page exists, those links are just forms to fill out. They don't tell you anything else about what to do and require you to put in effort at first to even get anywhere. If you want to learn about who to talk to, you'll be tricked if you try and look for information on the leadership because that's just full of glowing biograhpies about the congresspeople. The best you got is to go to the county page and hope your county has a good webpage. Or a webpage at all. Some don't even have phone numbers or addresses listed.
