Americans should go and see Heresiarch on their upcoming tour, I've seen the present line up twice now and they're very good live, very intimidating band. They're also playing stuff off the album which is supposed to be coming out shortly.

I'd have said that until Kodama came out, now it's still the best but only by a little.

I just got round to checking out various best of 2016 lists and I don't think I've seen Inquisition's Bloodshed... on any of them, which proves they're all trash because that was my #1 metal album last year. I barely saw my #2, Wormrot's Voices, either. I guess I could be the one with bad taste but that seems wrong.

Edit: They did introduce me to a few things I hadn't heard though, like Zhrine's Unortheta which sounds great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1AKVqQ0dvg

I love Inquisition but wasn't really blown away by that album. It's pretty good, i guess. I'm not wild about the Wormrot album either, tbh.

Zhrine is kool, they are especially good live. If you get a chance to see 'em do it. They were probably the best band I saw at MDF last year, which is a hosed up thing to say, but it's true.

Didn't dave claim a bunch of the masters were lost which is why he re-recorded a bunch of parts? I know it only took me one listen to delete it.

Yeah, something like that. That's not even the offensive part to me -- it's physically painful to listen to because it's just one constant hiss above 16 KHz or so. The poo poo mastering is most pronounced in the cymbals.

nothing. remasters and re-releases were a common tactic in the 90s/early 2000s to gin up catalog album sales. or if you're ozzy's wife a way to get out of having to pay royalties

also he redid the md45 album with his own lovely vocals instead of lee ving's

Early-mid 2000s was also the era of the iPod, where those lovely white status earbuds became the normal way to listen to music, so there was a big push to release music that sounded good on the worst hardware imaginable.

Amesoeurs has some songs with him singing and those tend to be their heaviest songs. Normally its a female vocalist who is also in some of Peste Noire tracks.

Ecailles de Lune is my favorite Alcest album and its probably their most "metal" album as well. Their latest album Kodama is actually a good listen too the best tracks are free on youtube if you want to check it out.

I think what happened is that Prozak really got into twitter in the last few years. I mean the dude has rolled with white supremacists online for a super long time (the old forum on anus.com more or less functioned as a recruitment tool for the National Alliance, going back to 15 years ago even) but the rise of gamergate and the "alt right" on the internet kicked his activities into overdrive. Now it's just endless rants about SJWs and posts about cyberstalking Kim Kelly.

Honestly the older I get the more uncomfortable the entire metal scene makes me and I think you nailed it. It used to be a kind of "lol there are still nazis are you loving serious" novelty but now that the KKK leader is tweeting "We made it" on the day of the inauguration and people I always considered extremely liberal followed the incredibly stupid path of I like human rights > a videogame thing happened > hail trump is actually a bit scary.

Well it was gradual, but yes. It's more linked than you think - Gamer communities were always prone to whatever the outrage of the week was, it just used to be very anti-censorship, "Games don't cause violence" which was the hot button topic. It's a bunch of young guys who are passionate about things that aren't important basically. Breitbart actually took advantage of this and covered the gamergate stuff extensively, so a lot of the gaming community took it as oh these people take us seriously. Breitbart is very right wing and the originator of the current batch of alt-right stuff so they took advantage of this new young demographic and spun them into right wing as well.

And Trump's strategy head is the owner of Breitbart :v:

I pretty much hate huge concerts but I might make an exception for these guys as long as it's not all stuff I don't know.

I think I had tickets to the same tour. Do you remember if Anthrax was opening? I was so psyched to see Maiden and Anthrax. They were two of my favorite bands and we scored great seats only to have to the shows canceled.

Edit - no way it was Powerslave (the show I had tickets for). I looked it up on Wikipedia - February 13, 1991 was the show I was supposed to see. The "No Prayer on the Road" tour.

I picked up Slice The Cake's album Odyssey To The West recently and it's quickly become my most listened-to record in a long rear end time. I think one of the reasons I find it so interesting is because I really loving dig the whole 'epic' narrative and story told throughout the lyrics/tracks. The only other albums like that I can think of are Edge of Sanity's Crimson II and Opeth's Still Life and I guess sorta Ghost Reveries. Can anyone recommend any more concept albums that are on the more brutal side of the metal spectrum?
