OK so actually if it has any carapace weapons it can still shoot you with those while you're in the trench. But yes this is still also extremely dumb and a very funny way to nerf some extraordinarily expensive models.

Didn't Fantasy have some models/units that didn't make the jumps between editions? I can't think of any but could swear there were.

Forest Goblins disappeared entirely at one point, not sure if they're back beyond spider riders and such, but back in the day you had forest, dark and common goblins all in different infantry units. I think common goblins had better leadership, and then forest maybe had poison (and their shaman could take mushrooms), and night goblins had the initiative bonus. And fanatics.

TheChirurgeon posted:I don't think this is a smart idea when you charge as much as GW does for models In which case you must always find a valid use for everything released ever going back decades no matter how superfluous or dumb it might have been. If cutting stuff out is not on the table then there isn't much scope for removing bloat, you are left with trying to make general rules that must fit everything. That is where you end up with unwieldy amounts of special rules Creeping in as you try to differentiate every last unit from a bunch of similar units.

It's really GW's own fault and it's all part of the feedback loop they created where the only thing that sells is Space Marines and so they have to go on making new Space Marine units so that people keep buying Space Marines. Like imagine if they had updated the Sisters range instead of making baby carriers or centurians. But now all of that stuff is here to stay and people have spent thousands of dollars on it and will want to be able to use them in whatever 40k successor ends up being released. It's kind of funny to think about it, but it seems like a Mantic approach where they made "Kill Team" a fully supported game with stripped down army lists and revised rules and fast play and then "Apocalypse 40k" a separate pillar with the full range of legacy models might actually be the best solution. Of course, this is what people said they should have done with Fantasy and AoS.

Chill la Chill posted:How mad would warham grognards be if you rolled over all the models into fewer unit types? I think one of the most incredibly freeing things was playing frostgrave and being able to use any cool model that roughly fits X archetype into this or that profile. Imagine if you could use either Dreadnoughts or Centurions or GK babywalkers with the Dreadnought profile. It would be VERY good, as it would also make it possible to actually balance the game. Maybe allow some kind of 2nd edition wargear card stuff or simple, army specific bonuses to allow some customization?

You can tell the people who really love the models and those who just buy them for play power reasons based on their view of that "problem." It's actually funny that you can see who actually believes in the "forge your narrative" and modeling and story stuff despite most GW whales claiming that's why they buy the models. Like holy poo poo if I were allowed to use the star viper as any other wang I would buy 3 more because they look so nice. I would buy 2 more ghosts to use as other freighter-bombers because lol space whales. The wargear system is how X wing works and it's wonderful.

Yeah that's really one of the greatest things about Kings of War are the loose proxying rules. As long as the unit isn't easily confused with a different unit in the list, basically anything goes. I think the only explicit restriction on proxying is that you can't use chariots to represent cavalry if the army includes an entry for chariots.

I'd almost give that model a pass if it were cast in clear plastic so you could do a neat translucent effect on the blue jizz but they didn't so instead I will remark on how lazy the pose is. The pose is very lazy.

I actually don't think he'd be that bad to transport compared to some of the GW stuff out there (and even my beloved Dark Age has some stuff that would be a pain). You'd probably want to magnetize the sword though. The biggest issue is that it just looks bad.
