I hit 50 the other day and have started noticing the grind. 50-51 took considerably longer than 49-50, and 51-52 is so far taking a lot of time. I thought the grind would kick in at 56. Anyways, when hitting 50 i was presented with a popup with various activities to do. Enemies are also noticeably harder and provide a decent challenge now, as opposed to the steamrolling i have done to them up to 50. Am i supposed to "gear up" now or should i just continue questing? I found some repeatable quests in Calpathon and also at the witch hut near Hexe skeleton area that provides some sort of coins used to trade for gear. Should i collect a bunch of these? It seems getting the gear are quests or something, they are not in a shop interface at least (like they would be in e.g. WoW) so i don't know if these items are upgrades or not. What kind of stats/gear should i have now, in general? I am using the 50 CP weapon from Calpathon and 2x Jarette rings/earrings, as well as a 6 AP necklace, for a total of 93 AP. Is this good enough to get to 56?

I'm in the same level area on my highest level character. Gear is what you want if you want to kill stuff better. There are quests worth doing (scroll dailies, seal daily, etc), but most of them don't really give you any rewards that are useful for gearing. I'm at 136 AP on the equipment page with pri liverto, +12 steel dagger, grunil helm/gloves, and full jarrette's, which is enough for me to kill stuff like skeletons with a single secondary spell (e.g. fireball explosion). I have issues with the knights under the monastery, though the last time I tried it I may have not had the gloves and +12 dagger and was eating poo poo because lol 50 DP. It doesn't seem like the equipment page factors in AP set bonuses, so my effective AP should be a bit higher than 136 at the moment since I have ap bonuses from jarrette's and grunil. For what it's worth my plan is to fill out +15/pri/duo grunil->pri/duo steel dagger->duo/tri awakening weapon (hopefully i will be lvl 56 by this point). I'm putting pretty low priority on accessories because it's not really cost effective to upgrade them while I much lower hanging fruit. As for the daily quest in calpheon, I'm assuming you're talking about the necklace of magical power, which is probably a waste of your time. I don't know what the one in hexe sanctuary is, though i did get some repeatable quest near there that gave me a some loot crate thing

Make sure you check your Black Spirit quests for any quests labeled "Black Spirits Gift (name)" and start smashing the R key. On a few characters I was getting 10-15 inventory slots and a whack ton of blackstones.

The grind is directly proportional to your gear prior to 56, as well as how often you plan to play. On the first time, it is fairly slow, but on a later alt, if you get the gear, it goes by stupidly fast. If you play casually, it'll feel much faster since you can take advantage of the daily 200% boost. This game is more enjoyable if you treat it as a marathon as opposed to a sprint.

So this is pure speculation, but it looks like BDO population is experiencing a revival and a lot of returning and new players drastically changing the shape of the economy. Kzarka listings have returned to the point of demand exceeding supply and even Livertos now are a little scarcer on the MP. TRI Livertos are pretty common on the MP but I'm quite confident that the reason is due to people using those to build FS since they're blue quality item which makes them fail more often than Greens. Also, very surprising is the lack of Valentine's Day sale. I would have thought they'd post a sale for that holiday. Again, more speculation, but I feel like this further sustains the theory of resurgence of the population. They're betting on people willing to spend money without waiting for a sale and I think it is the case. Also, PNR is going for Fishing 1 as the next skill point. 2 points with 40% of the next skill point exp. Almost everyone is officer so if you're going to grind mobs/gather, try and see if you can't get a guild quest for where you're going. There's not any penalty for dropping or failing a quest other than the tiny amount of silver that is the deposit requirement.

Yeah there is absolutely a resurgence. I am in a formerly dead guild of people that went off to AA fresh start or other games and now have come back. Almost universally they remember the really good stuff about BDO and just aren't going to kill themselves with RNG and grinding this time around. Also March 3rd is the year anniversary of launch and release of Dark Knight, so I expect some good sales and events then.

I think so too, I've been noticing more channels being labelled as "Crowded" recently. Of course they can always change the criteria for "crowded" behind the scenes and nobody would know, but given how they seem to copy and paste random portions from the KR version into ours with no rhyme or reason, I don't give them enough credit to actually do that.

I started playing recently after hearing about all the new player bonuses and hearing lots of good things from returning players. There are a lot of people in the Olvia channels. A lot. It's like the game is having a re-launch period almost.

So about on my very first gather on my very first character I got something called a "sharp black crystal shard" around level 13. The marketplace says this is currently going for around 3.5 million at the moment. Is that normal? Or did I just get the luckiest drop ever?

Not bad at all. When I came back to the game I was greeted with so many welcome back drops and RNG fun so I have so many millions now. The game is very eager to give you money but it's a double edged sword as it will also take it away just as quickly. I think I got an upgrade item for 77 mil out of blind luck a couple weeks ago.

Right now the market has more of them than normal, but they are still probably selling fine, or you can hoard them until the event is over and supply drops.

Hard and sharp crystal shards are what I would call uncommon drops from gathering, and are used to make the stone to enhance gear above +15. As your gathering skill gets better, it takes less energy to gather. Usually what people will do with high level gathering skill (and energy total) they will go on a gathering spree blow through several hundred energy (which results in significantly more gathering attempts than energy spent), and walk away with a couple shards to show for it. So yeah it's a good drop but as far as this game goes, not really what I would call rare. At the high end 3.5 million is not a lot of money at all. You can blow through hundreds of millions in no time trying to enhance high end gear.

Alright. Guess my other question would be if the mobs ever get a bit more clever. So far they just run at me slowly and die before they reach me from being chain lightning'd. Am I going to see them start using dodges and combos as well? Edit: Also, I keep seeing this red thing that I think means there's a boss monster at the location on the map and yet when I go to it I can't see it. I literally chased the thing across the map until it disappeared and nothing was visible. What's up with that? Wait, okay. So I just saw the mobs in question randomly pop into and out of existence repeatedly like I was zoning into another version of an instance or something. They also appeared to have a purple name. Is this a bug? Archonex fucked around with this message at 18:14 on Feb 20, 2017 |

Also lag/desync is poo poo in this game and you will end up annoyed when the big murderdude (world boss) does a 180 teleport onto your rear end and oneshots you. EDIT: To be a bit more descriptive, this game actually does have pretty engaging combat if you aren't overgeared where monster attacks do hurt (even if their attacks don't tend to be very interactive), but you have lots of avoidance tools depending on class (blocks, teleports, dodges, attacks that actively move you). However, in practice, people overgear and are in "farm mode" all the time, basically only going to murder dudes at areas once they've exceeded "recommended" level/gear score, e.g. . Efficiency and all that, since the way to make numbers go up is pretty much through grind money. Some of the more fun/engaging gameplay I've had was running slightly undergeared alts (basically a +7 weapon, +5 armor) in the L50 areas in the southwest of the map. lurksion fucked around with this message at 21:46 on Feb 20, 2017 |

Then they quit, and then a new wave of people who do the same thing replace them and also quit. Meanwhile people who actually stop and smell the roses and dare to have fun doing ~inefficient~ things keep playing the whole time and still slowly gear up over time.

Yeah there's just one server with a bunch of channels. But the Olvia channels are for new and returning players and have a 100% exp buff. You level super fast, I am already sad my access to them runs out on the 23rd. You can swap between them at any time, if you want to kill a world boss on Velia, you can channel swap to that and then come back to Olvia for the bonus. As far as catching up goes, it depends on what you want to do. PVP in the game is basically the occasional gank while grinding, red battlefield, and node wars. The grinding ganks aren't really a problem with 36 channels, and red battlefield is the penis-waving gear check. But getting to the soft cap and becoming a contributor to node wars is very possible.

They only exist as a catch up mechanic for new or returning players. Can always channel swap if you want to kill a boss, but I guess they didn't want a bunch of newbies trying to take down Karanda.

So for moneymaking purposes in this game there is 3 main activities you can do while afk; horse riding, fishing and worker harvesting. From what i understand all of these require you to actually be online, even for workers to do their thing. I have limited time to play this game and am unable to leave the game running, even minimized. I also would like to play the game rather than e.g. sit and play the marketplace. Are there any good ways for me to make money as a level 52 with 96 AP and 50 DP ? I have amassed a decent amount of money so far from all the various gold ingots and similar you get one time as a new user. I am not quite ready to commit that money to gear upgrades, particularly since i don't have a steady income beyond the pittance i get from manshas/catfishmen/treants/orcs/hexeskeletons. My original plan was to play several classes to 56 and awaken them to get a feel for their playstyles before committing to a main but i was expecting the 50-56 journey to take less time. It also looks like i am about to outgrow the southwest part of the map since that is level 48-51 but i am nowhere near the recommended AP/DP for the higher zones. To enter these servers you must have a new account (Made on or after Dec. 1st with the Opening of the New World!) or have been absent from the game for 30 days. Players who meet these requirements will be able to login to these servers. Please note there are a few key points about these new servers. I've read that Madewa needs a ton of accuracy, much more so than AP. I am assuming witch doesn't need accuracy? (these 2 are the classes i play the most) I rarely die on my witch so getting better armor wasn't the first thing i thought of. I have only played my madewa to 40 though and don't take a lot of damage so more armor wasn't my first idea for that either; maybe it will die faster at low 50s though (?)

Ineptitude posted:Don't the various classes need different mods on their armor though? Accuracy is usually done through your weapon (liverto and kzarka give accuracy), off-hand (kutum/bronze vs nouver/steel), and accessories (RCE, tree spirit belt) rather than crystals/armor. I think the biggest thing that would change between witch/maehwa for armor slots is attack vs cast speed. For reference a common pve witch slotting is: Head: 2x +2 Cast speed Armor: 2x +HP, +weight (these are actually a little expensive) Shoes: 2x +2 movement speed Weapon: 2x +2 AP Gloves: 1x +1 cast +1 crit, 1x +2 crit Offhand: w/e and i'm betting just switching the cast speed to attack speed is probably a reasonable slotting for maehwa. Unless you're constantly shifting armor back and forth, it's not really that expensive to just rip out the crystals and rebuy the ones you want once you're upgrading. If you don't want to rip everything out and shuffle equipment around a lot, a second helmet is probably a good investment As for if you need better armor, you may eventually want more once you start grinding in mediah. I'm lazy and basically don't care about getting hit by anything except elites and just spam aoes, and my DP makes it so I run out of mana far faster than HP. I once tried doing abandoned monastery knights with ~50dp. Then I got oneshotted by a back attack. Then I bought +100 dp worth of armor and now they barely tickle.

Unrelated PSA: If you logged on every day but didn't remember to relog (AFK fishers are primary victims of this), you can ticket it and you'll get your rewards. New attendance reward is up. Shorter timeframe to collect rewards is nice and the new "catch up" mechanic on the weekends is nice too.
