Yes, because in the end The Thing 2011 still had a good director and was filled with great actors, especially Mary Elizabeth Windstead and the guy playing Lars (one of the Norwegian guys trying to kill the dog in The Thing 1982). The MSJ has a new favorite as of 05:57 on Feb 22, 2017 |

I'm pretty sure the problem with Harbinger Down was that it was special effects people making a whole movie with one actor and just a bunch of random dudes, on a Kickstarter budget But even still, better RT score than the The Thing remake

Never trust effects grunts (effects grunts who think Rita Repulsa's newest monster is appropriate for a Thing movie, no less) to make a movie. Not surprised by the higher RT score, to be honest. As HD teaches us, some people will excuse anything if it's got rubber and KY.

Andy sounds better now with his retooled version, but for a while without John he sounded so depressed. It's of the same ilk as Kung Fury but more settled down and traditionally paced as a movie. I really liked it.

Yeah, it was a fun movie. Apple annoyed the poo poo out of me though, even though you could make an argument for her Manic Pixie Dreamgirl-ness being a result of her being a robit but even so I wasn't sad to see her go.

I agree in that it's a faux-80s retro thing but it's a lot less cynical in its approach than Kung Fury (which I didn't like much), and a lot more focused on one theme. I've heard it compared to Hobo with a Shotgun, but that one's a lot more hardcore and violent. Last time I watched Hobo with a Shotgun I'd smoked some very dodgy weed and got super anxious around 20 minutes in, had to turn it off and chill out with something more positive. Turbokid I probably could have handled.

Yeah, I'd liken it way more to Hobo with a Shotgun than Kung Fury in that it comes from a place of sincere love for the source materials and so generally knows what it's doing when it winks at the audience, rather than just cramming in le memes.
