This is an article about the general damage being done sand mining but of course China is by far the worst for it for multiple reasons https://www.theguardian.com/cities/2017/feb/27/sand-mining-global-environmental-crisis-never-heard quote:Times are good for Fey Wei Dong. A genial, middle-aged businessman based near Shanghai, China, Fey says he is raking in the equivalent of £180,000 a year from trading in the humblest of commodities: sand.

I recommended Poorly Made in China for my spouse when she wanted something light but non-fiction to read for a trip. She tore through it in one sitting with this amazed/horrified look on her face and now she's never buying anything cheap from eBay/AliExpress ever again. That book really has an effect on people.

Have her read Factory Girls as well, it's less horrifying manufacturing practices and more horrifying cost of human life & soul.

In Germany black and yellow face is really not seen as something horrible the way it is in the US, though the concept that it's not really that appropriate is slowly popping up here and there. Bavarians don't give a gently caress either way.

All things considered, I'm surprised to hear that. I saw a bunch of idiots dressed in dime-store "red Injun!"-type costumes once in the UK. My Canadian friend and I both gasped when they ran past us going WHOOOOOOOO and clapping their hands over their mouths. One of the British girls we were walking with responded with derision, scoffing, "It''s not like there are Native Americans anymore, god, calm down." She is a dumb bitch.
