The Right in this country is held together by iron discipline and a seething hatred of the Other (city liberals, gays, minorities, the youth, foreigners, immigrants). They're a true party in every sense, despite deep and lasting divisions between the party cadres, libertarian tax activists, big business, the Christian wing, ex-industrial proletariat, and upper-middle class suburban votes.

The Left-Libs are handicapped by bad candidates, poorly run campaigns, and party leadership increasingly out of touch, beholden to corporate interests. Leadership would rather offer smug self-satisfaction that they aren't as bad as Republicans rather than a policy platform which stands for any drat thing and isn't handicapped by means testing, sliding scales, and other poo poo no ordinary person understands or wants to understand. The idea that there isn't a solid (electoral or otherwise) majority of voters out there who, with the right messaging and policies, could be persuaded to vote in large numbers is pure defeatism. There are. And they aren't just waiting for another good-looking celebrity politician, either. The entire party has to be restructured from the ground up and turned into something even halfway resembling a real party.

yes

god will not save us, nor has he damned us

i honestly do think that the present situation is both a failure of the democratic party and of its constituents, however. lots of people right here are happier with trump than they would ever be with hillary and made this perfectly clear for all to see.

as much as it was a failure of her campaign to actually talk about them as well, actual lefties didn't seem to give a crap that Clinton's policies were in fact in line with what the left claims to want in many respects

Can't imagine why the left didn't trip over themselves to vote for a candidate chasing suburban republican moderates. Turns out surrogates and supporters repeatedly saying "we don't need you" makes people not want to vote for your candidate :eyepop:

i honestly think that a large portion of the "left" just likes affirmation of the idea that they are better than the right, and the awfulness of the right, democratic polticians, and human suffering all facilitate this and are therefore nothing but the desired result

eh, the firebagger portion of the left would be equally thrilled to turn on a president sanders the moment he needs to compromise with centrists to get anything done. the cspam thread would be something like "post sad bernie cucks realizing that their socialist messiah sold them out"

also, leftie activism in the primaries of senate and house races is also really important to give any future dem president the votes to get their domestic agenda through congress. if the green party (for example) was serious about moving an agenda instead of grandstanding, it could stay out of the presidential races for now and focus hard on getting some seats in congress in deep blue states. build up party infrastructure and some dem allies, be like a pseudo-parliamentary coalition. eventually it might become strong enough to force the dems to either move left or be supplanted as the second major national party. but right now they're just someone's vanity project every 4 years

I've noticed a real difference between people that say "i voted" versus "we voted" - the latter is your generic ooh raa simpleton who believes the difference between the president and Congress is the same as ownership and management of a their city name sports team.

I voteds are your quintessential swing demographic - your bandwagon fan. Like the above they're too dumb to read policy, too angry to have consistent voting patterns, but they lack that chip in their brain that impels them to follow one team. They just hop on the hot ticket and complain when they are inevitably disappointed by a sport they are too ignorant to follow

Another part of the psychology of the i voteds is that they don't generally re/tweet political opinions on twitter, even during the election year, except to complain that death is certain and publicly announce their complicity in the creation of a kletocratic terror state that they're suddenly having second thoughts about

She voted for Trump. Now she fears losing the Obamacare plan that saved her life

quote:

Watson also voted for Donald Trump, believing the businessman would bring change. She dismissed his campaign pledges to scrap the Affordable Care Act as bluster. :psyduck:

Now, as she watches the new president push to kill the law that provided her with a critical lifeline, Watson finds herself among many Trump supporters who must reconcile their votes with worries about the future of their healthcare.

Watson, a proud, salty woman who was uninsurable a few years ago, isn’t ready to renounce Trump. But she’s increasingly frustrated by his vague promises to replace Obamacare with something better.

...

She said she’s ready to go to Washington to tell lawmakers not to roll back Obamacare.

“Walk a mile in my shoes,” Watson said. “I never thought I’d have to go through all of this. I was working for an attorney. I was making good money. … I’m not here to get something for nothing. I just want to be healthy, pay my bills and go about my life.”

That was literally his signature campaign promise, gently caress!
