I don't think choosing to stay on after the side he was notionally on lost the referendum demonstrates a lack of principles. It wasn't his idea to have one nor was his political career staked on it. Campaigning ineffectually for a cause you clearly don't believe in, to its detriment? That's extremely unprincipled.

I think the hinges about corbyn is that it's hard to disaggregate his poor performance as leader from his politics so a lot of lefty ppl think attacks on corbyn are always also attacks on left politics. They usually are but still, I'd love to see a charismatic lefty like keir starmer put his ideas into practice.

I'm not saying this guy has it, and I'm not sure if he saw professional if he was using that defence in court, but suggesting that mental issues, including battle stress, are made up to help soldiers get away with war crimes is a very slimy thing to do.

For further evidence see Brown & Gay (1985) or any of the copycat studies published since. It's a God send to happen today because I'm teaching a lesson on ethnic inequality and now I can fob off covering the Bellend Curve.

Basically all the excuses offered by his soldiers on panorama (too far to take the wounded man back, he had grenades, we were egging Al on, you should be able to kill the enemy as and when) can be safely dismissed. As his superior Tom (?) said it's a sad situation but Al broke the law. I'd say manslaughter is probably a fair outcome and who knows? Maybe this high profile case will lead to greater understanding of poor mental health in men.

Those wacky coloureds, always eating curry and nothing but. Namibian curries, South Carolingian curries, third generation mixed Black British curries. Completely unsurprising that the oval office looks like a second rate Bernard Manning tribute act.

What I meant was that Leave/Remain as an identity is (for the time being) a stronger factor than class/gender/race at the moment. I can imagine if the situation were reversed he might have seen it as mercy, and certainly if I was bleeding out from being shot by an apache I would want it ended quick. It didn't change the fact he aknowledged it was illegal, did it anyway and then tried to cover it up.

TinTower posted:"So, Mr Goebbels, do you have any response to the accusation that not only were you directly involved in the commission of genocide, you also engaged in human experimentation on prisoners of war?" Goebbels was Propaganda Minister, he neither ordered genocide (he wasn't at the Wannsee Conference, though he got the minutes afterwards), nor did he take part in human experimentation; regardless, you'd have had a hard time asking him that question at trial since he committed suicide alongside Hitler (Not that he wasn't totally down with the whole idea, but I'm not sure that could be considered a war crime in and of itself unfortunately)

By definition being a soldier with a gun fighting people must put you in a murdering frame of mind, kindof a requirement for the job isnt it.. And yes ive seen the execution and his words. Brokenshire has said that if no executive is in place in Northern Ireland by the end of the April recess he will move to introduce legislation into the house of commons to set a regional rate for the year - most likely meaning an end to the 6 year rate freeze the DUP and SF both implemented

His sentence was seven years, so he's eligible for release on licence after three and a half, which he has already served. Basically I'm saying that giving him a standard sentence for manslaughter is ridiculous when the nature of the crime (being an admitted violation of IHL) should have been a major aggravating factor.
