Portland City Council meetings too unsafe to attend, Nick Fish tells staffquote:Protesters have repeatedly shut down council meetings since Wheeler took office in January, demanding the mayor release information about a black teen killed by police and try harder to prevent homeless people from dying. They've worn targets on their chests, called the mayor fascist, mocked commissioners' "aye" votes with demonic renderings and laughed when the mayor tried to quiet them. At one meeting, protesters called Eudaly a profane name, which several of her staffers said visibly upset her. I for one am committed to ensuring that the people who run local government feel protected from public feedback.

Dont cops wear kevlar? And dont they have mace and tasers and better physical training to react more quickly to defuse a situation, perhaps tackle a would-be assailant? If you ask me, cops are pussies scared of anyone looking at them funny. You should have to be brave to wear that uniform. Anyone shooting someone before being fired upon should be fired for cowardice.

You heard it hear first, folks! For some reason, the people that we hire and train to respond to these types of situations will always lose a shootout. Even if they have their gun drawn and aimed and their opponent doesn't. Cops just aren't fast enough to hang with today's turbo-criminals.

Accretionist posted:I used to be a security guard. I've talked my way through situations where police have killed for less and I am an anxiety-prone nerd. For sure. I assume you also read about the homeless guy they shot the same day as Hayes? By all accounts the guy was in crisis and needed to be slowly talked down. They shot him instead. At least he survived to tell his story, I guess. Guy I work with was really taking the cop's side yesterday. He kept making a big deal about how Hayes had held someone at gunpoint during an earlier robbery. No matter how many times I explained it, he didn't seem to get that using a gun to rob a soft target is a very situation than actually pulling a gun and opening fire on a target that already has a rifle pointed at you. "Robbed someone at gunpoint = willing to shoot a police officer" doesn't work logically, no matter how hard you beat that drum.

"Robbed someone at gunpoint" also doesn't necessarily mean the gun was loaded, or that it was a real gun, or even that they had a gun. I'd also be willing to bet that the minimum punishment for this crime isn't death by firing squad.
