It's less that and more that TIEs without upgrades suck rear end, so even average/mediocre ships are going to wreck their faces without them.

That's pretty hilarious, and if that's the case then yes I'll just change my list instead. Was just hoping there was something we hadn't thought of to counter it.

For a little while four naked Blue Squadron B-Wings with a lone Bandit Z-95 Headhunter was a viable tournament list.

The academy pilot is actually one of the best no-upgrade ships in the game, along with the bandit squadron pilot.

BTW, i've heard it mentioned that the Rogue One stuff got playtested for quite a while under different names. "Jyn Erso" was "huntress" in playtesting. This is probably why some characters/abilities don't really seem to match.

The TIE is one of the most baseline efficient ships on a points per attack/agility/hull/shield point basis. Well flown TIE Swarms are very good, but no one runs naked TIEs anymore for good reason. They're incredibly fragile and anemic on a per shot basis.

I assumed that the thing that made it difficult is if I do 3 points of damage to one of his ships I eliminate 2 attack dice whereas he has to do 8 points of damage to me to impact on my available hit dice.

Yeah that's part of it. The other part is that Attack > Agility in terms of raw dice efficiency, and three red dice will do more damage to three green dice than two red dice will do to one green die when combined with that.

The reason tie swarms take crackshot now has more to do with keeping up with the attack joneses than anything else. You can still get seven ties with 4 crackshots. But yeah, the attack inflation has made it more difficult to run swarm ships and straight-up jousters in general.

I don't know how I missed the no upgrades the first time I read it, but I don't get why you're playing without upgrades.

If you're trying to reduce complexity by not having a bunch of triggers and abilities to remember, flying a TIE swarm with named pilots is the opposite of that.

So I got this some time ago, and played a dozen games with friends and now I'm hooked and looking get some new stuff so I need some advice, mostly for playing with friends but maybe also a local tournament or two.

I have original (not TFA) core set
TIE Interceptor expansion
TIE Defender
A-Wing
Z-95
B-Wing

To buy Heroes of the Resistance pack or get YT-1300 and T-70 X-Wing pack separately? And is Sabine's TIE useful in current meta? I love how batshit that thing looks.

Yeah, I'm in the Xwing group, reading through the chat logs now. I can tell you a rage Youngster and 7 academies made the top 16 cut. André Ripoli, last year's champ was 17th. Top 16 games will be played out tomorrow!

Another cool top 16 list. Jess Pava, 2Z, 2Y (one stress, one not).At least one Kanan Biggs.

Edit 2: Because of a mess up with scheduling it too early apparently their prizes are a little different. Disney hasn't approved the official Nationals prizes yet. So there it was BB8 for everyone, bunch of alt arts for other prizes. Looks like the top players will get their kits sent out once they arrive. Black acrylic with purple/blue. Rulers and shields.

Haha yeah, he's a really top bloke too, one of the original core group of players/organiser/helpers in São Paulo. He's been flying tie swarms at every event for a while now. I played him and his swarm at the last regionals and won pretty comfortably. The weird thing is, that for a dedicated swarm player, he just doesn't really rate Howlrunner OR crackshot. I tried to convince him otherwise but he wanted to stick at making Youngster work. I'm glad to hear it's finally paying off for him.

I would love for a hypothetical Scariff-themed Rogue One set to be an actual little scenario kit or mini-campaign with a big die cut shield gate and ships and cards for both factions. Krennic and K2 crew plx.

Asajj double Y is what Paul Heaver took to worlds and I think it's pretty good, though it takes some finesse and discipline to play well.

So, the triple defender list was actually eliminated in top 8 by Vader, Inq, palp, which ended up winning everything. Final was that v fenn JJ, Fenn took a ps0 crit early thanks to palpatine and that was decisive. The same guy was runner up at last year's national too.

Ran that Roark jank list today. Really cool how few actions you need, especially before shooting. You can bump everyone and still end up with a token or two on Biggs thanks to Operations Specialist.

I went 3-0 with it today against Old Fennaroo, RAC/QuickDraw, and Fenn with 2 torp boats. I didn't use the bomb, so I wonder if those two points are better used elsewhere, though it's hard to tell if just having the bomb forced my opponents to chose different maneuvers.

So I just ran an XX Y list against inquisitior, Vader, whisper. Nuked inquisitior and Vader pretty quick and had an untouched Y and two half health Xs, but I lost because I couldn't land hits on whisper. At the end he only had one Hull. It was my first time playing against something that cloaks. What kind of tactics should I use against a ship like that? There were multiple times where I was shooting with all 3 ships but his 4 evade dice knocked out all the hits I had.

Also, this was my list.

T-70 X-Wing: •"Snap" Wexley (35)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Push the Limit (3)
•BB-8 (2)
Pattern Analyzer (2)

Y-Wing: •"Dutch" Vander (31)

Against Phantoms, the best thing to do is to have someone with a higher PS that can shoot them before they re-cloak. For your list, the easiest thing to do would probably be to swap out Blue Ace for PS9 Poe and shuffle the upgrades on Snap and Dutch around some.

Eh, I mostly just do 2-speed or higher maneuvers at the beginning of the game.

Also note that any time you do banks you want to go faster with the guys on the outside of the formation, so you can 1-bank with the guys on the inside and 2-bank with Rex on the outside.

I've also been struggling with those last two points. Thought about bumping the stresshog to PS4. Thought about using an ARC with stressbot instead. Thought about throwing a torpedo on Biggs.

In the end, the bomb seemed to be the most useful.

I could do that, but having the M9-G8 definitely seems nice on Dutch since I usually want to take the target lock to pass and being able to make someone reroll a die is nice. Without BB-8 blue Ace was less enjoyable to fly anyways, usually he's my favorite ship.
