Auto build likes to do dumb things sometimes (the two big ones I always have to look out for is that it really likes to use the lowest-level weapons and the highest level power supplies, regardless of how many times I've researched higher-tier weapons or how much excess power the ship has) but clicking auto-build and then giving it a once-over to correct those little dumb things has worked well enough for me.

Third try's the charm, I hope. :v: First was for the original pack before it fell through, second was probably just too late before Banks/Utopia came out and GlyphGryph had to redo the whole thing. Anyway, here goes.

Karnault Scionate - Your usual conquering warrior horde. Krogan Mongols, basically.

quote:

Karnault: A dusty rock in the middle of nowhere? Technically true, I suppose.

But Karnault is also our mother. And our mother is a blacksmith. We are both her children and her craft; her soil is both our cradle and our crucible. In the blazing heat of our sun Mordoon, on the anvil that is her mesas and plateaus, she has forged us. Hammered, tempered and nurtured us to make us ever tougher, ever stronger.

We Karn are our mother's singular masterpiece; the greatest weapon in the galaxy. You will not find a shield too sturdy for this weapon to split, no beast too mighty for it to slay. If you don't believe me now, you will when this weapon swats away your fleets and beats down the gates of your palace.

Search of Corainn - The stereotypical curious and greedy crows in galactic civilization form. ("Search" is the collective noun for them, as in "murder of crows" or "pride of lions".)

quote:

For the Corainn, the word "curious" is vaguely synonymous with our "pious". They are not religious in the usual sense; They have no personified gods and do not concern themselves much with such vague concepts as "soul" or "divinity". Instead, they revere the concepts of exploration, discovery and learning, and find what we would equate with spiritual fulfillment in discovering concrete new things and ideas. A place they haven't been to, a story they haven't heard, a food they haven't tasted; All these things are, in a sense, divine to the Corainn.

Also they just really love shiny things.

Allied P'Zark Laboratories - If Cave Johnson was an actually competent scientist and also a total rear end in a top hat, he might be a P'Zark.

quote:

Describe the P'Zark society? Oh, for the love of....

Ok, look: Science. That's the P'Zark in a nutshell. We do science. We've been doing science for a long time and we're pretty good at it. And with good science comes good everything else. You let us do our science in peace, we're good. You get in the way of our science doing, we'll science you right in the face. With missiles. VERY SCIENTIFIC missiles. Science is very good for explosions, you see.
That descriptive enough? Well it better be, because we ain't got time for more, we've got more science to do. Now get out.

Rylcan Concordat - This time, the XENOS purge YOU.

quote:

Our ancestors were born from the muck of the ocean floor. From there, they set out to conquer the deep. Their enemies were terrible and many, but the ancestors battled until they alone remained in the bloodied waters. Then the Spirit of the Abyss urged them upwards, to the surface. The ancestors were aghast, but the spirit chided them, and prophesied: If the ancestors mastered ocean, land and air alike, one day their children would once again rise from the mud and dirt to find a new deep to conquer.

My brethren, the prophecy has come true. We have found the New Deep, and it is infinitely vast and terrible. Our destiny is clear:

We will honour our ancestors. We will conquer the deep.

Hail Columbia! American portraits: I think this is what adds the custom city appearance for the Rylca.

I'm curious about this too. Usually late game is running around with a massive stack of long ranged sniper Battlecruisers. Whenever I try to get a nice composition, they blow up whenever things get crazy.

Also playing as a Sentient robotic race that purges nonrobots is awfully hard. The galaxy REALLY hates you and despite having murderous extreme purge policies, anything other than Robot lasts for 5 years so snagging new planets after war kinda sucks as you're stuck with planets that hate you and take forever to purge.

Also it is possible to add Hive Mind to other races on your planets with Genetic Modification, so there's that extremely minor drawback as well. It's a cheap negative trait, but not quiiiiite free. If you're playing the Devour Everything Swarm Hive Mind, where you don't care about other races' opinions of you and are just going to eat any conquered pops without trying to assimilate them, then it's really drat cheap.

Domestic servants are horrible. You have to manually place one pop on every single loving world? Are you bloody insane?

Tinkering with racial traits is fun but it takes so long until you're able to. Even with nothing but biologist scientists and prioritizing the techs I didn't get the relevant gene stuff until way late.

I put a partially conquered race on the slab and gave them the communal, charismatic and conserving(?) traits and when I took some more planets I gave the new pops the same traits. But they didn't merge into one species because I had put the traits in the wrong order the second time. The game considers them separate species because one is communal and charismatic while the other is charismatic and communal. Doing the same with another empire later and it merged them properly after I made sure the traits were in the same order. :downs:

The mods to make habitats earlier sound really good. By the time they're available for building it's easy to just keep a constructor solely for cranking them out.

Worst problem I've encountered since Utopia: There's no way to colonize with people on habitats. You'd think since habitats are 100% habitability like gaia worlds, and they're tiny (only 12 pops), one could effectively use them to make people that are good on different climates, but no. I have to modify my 24 person gaia world instead.

Go authoritarian for the -unrest on slavery, also police state for an additional -20 unrest if you really want it. Harmony also has further unrest reductions. They'll be unhappy, but, gently caress'em, they're slaves.

Robotics is outlawed for hiveminds, I think?

Is there a better way to build a bunch of ships that clicking on each space port and building from there? (wru EU4 style army templates)

Any tips for early wars? I just spent 40 years on a Corvette/Destroyer vs. Corvette/Destroyer war that I think I only one because another neighbor jumped into to punch my opponent.

Is there a better way to gauge strength beyond comparing in the diplomacy view (Equivalent etc.)? My ideal wars are quick and clean, not 40 year slogs for 4 planets.

Personally I've found early wars work out a ton better if you can lure the enemy fleet into a station. They can take a pretty decent pounding, letting you get an edge on the ship count. Depending on your income you can go over navel cap, and depending on civics/etc there are some +fleet options. Make sure you have an admiral, because even just the level of the guy gives you a bonus. In general a straight even fight is a bad idea, get yourself an edge (numbers, station) to get the steamroll going for you.

Also don't go full synth if there is a holy fallen empire unless you're ready for a war. Then don't accept them demanding you grovel, because the fuckers are just going to declare war 2 days later anyways.

There really needs to be something like a sector queue that's functionally identical to the spaceport queue UI, but that automatically distributes production to all the spaceports in a sector. I don't even care if it efficiently distributes ship types to spaceports with the appropriate modules, although that'd be nice.

It is MTTH, but there are only so many techs that can come up at a time, and once you get the tech that gives +1 research alternatives you're going to get something useful pretty much every draw. This isn't true for the rare techs, which can really suck.
