Basically imagine that you were a motorcycle enthusiast but for some reason the government made it an rear end-pain to buy a muffler so whenever you rode you had to wear earplugs and all your neighbors hated you. And like a muffler, a suppressor doesn't make a gun literally silent, just not painfully loud. Plus the history is silly: banning suppressors/silencers back in 1935 has nothing to do with mob hits or assassinations, it was Fish and Wildlife departments wanting one more thing to charge poachers with. Not that it stops them, since any idiot can make a suppressor cheap with off-shelf parts for jacklighting deer, while honest folks are hosed. Put another way, in gun-hating UK suppressors are waaaay easier to get than in the US. It's a pointless law that helps nothing and just says "gently caress off gun owners, we hate you."

Totally off topic but I'm really curious why you can only hunt turkeys with a shotgun. Like, I'm familiar enough that I know most people hunt turkey with shotguns, but I'm wondering why someone would make it a legal requirement. Was there an epidemic of people pistol-hunting turkeys????

Interesting anecdote: one of my great uncles was a real outdoorsman and spent basically all his retirement hunting and fishing in the Colorado high country. At some point in his eighties I wanna say he came down with appendicitis and when they took his appendix out, my parents tell me that the surgeons found a bunch of birdshot that he'd eaten by accident.
