^As long as Trump is seated in the WH and Republicans have a majority this is going to be normal. Nazi guys saw this as a huge win and what America wanted, so they believe it's safe to step outside and be open about it. I thought Neo-Confederates were more the standard old redneck Christian 'Murica types. Nah it's not unpleasant to say that white supremacist, racism and fascist superiority complexes are backed into law enforcement. One just needs to look at all the times cops are used as hired thugs by other bigoted members of power. Why else would police have a tendency in the news to not even have a trial or be allowed to act like they're occupying another country in their own country?

The only negative interaction I saw was a pair of white cops hassling a black homeless guy for daring to fall asleep outside of an apartment.

Part of the cover story for the "pro-monument" crowd is the secrecy with which the contract was done and how it was so much more than the last one. It's really about government accountability, you see. NO being NO there may well have been some funny business but they forget that the last contractor quit because of death threats followed by someone torching his car. I'd ask for a higher price and some protection too...

Cajuns are descended from French Canadians so Cajun food is a genuine white people thing New Orleans is Creole, not Cajun, though. So the sentiment is correct but I just had to get that out.Radish posted:It's not to heroes of the confederacy it's commemorating a literal white supremacist insurrection after the Civil War ended. So we're back to the "fig leaf" of post-Reconstruction Lost Cause/state's rights revisionism. I know a few people who have now taken the position of "well yeah THAT one was racist but the others are JUST HISTORY MAN."

Cajun is not Creole, which is what I was about. They are distinct cuisines and ethnicities. Creole is heavily based on Afro-Caribbean and Spanish cuisines. Cajun is French/Acadian with local ingredients and influences (including, yes, African and Native American). There's plenty of examples of whites shamelessly co-opting minority cultures but unless you're arguing that Cajun cuisine somehow doesn't belong to the Cajuns...
