They've shifted to natural gas and everyone but the coal industry knows that's dead. I've seen a bunch of debates about this the last week where the Republican has to quickly admit that coal is stupid and shift their argument to "JOBS!" or "well, liberals don't like natural gas either." But I'm nothing near an expert.

But this is a pointless derail and I'm sorry for getting involved. I had a conversation with one of my wife's ammosexual in-laws who did 2 tours in Iraq with the Oregon National Guard at Thanksgiving a few years back that kinda went... Ammosexual in-law: I can't believe you live in "the city" and don't have a gun to protect your family. Me: Meh, I have a big, loud dog. So any ne'er do wells that are thinking of breaking into our house will hear big, loud dog & likely move on to a softer target. AIL: Let me tell you how little a big, loud dog dissuaded us in Iraq. Me: Well, when the time comes that I'm worried about professional US soldiers kicking in my door, I will have likely armed myself.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Leon Trotsky 2012 posted:This: The idea is a binding round 2 of climate negotiations would lay down the framework for the transition to a post-carbon economy and include mechanisms to handle non-compliant states. It would take a new international treaty, but so does any binding action on climate change. Majorian posted:Sure, but I'm talking about the Paris agreement. Basically this 4-8 year period was the last chance for the US to take a leadership role on climate. In completely abdicating we'll cede that role. A normal Republican would have tried to keep the US as a "leader" on climate if only to better our negotiating position.
