Now there's a franchise ripe for a reboot.

What's the Bandit going to do if all the trucks are automated by the time that movie comes out, rob them?

Jesus, now that I bring that up, why hasn't Burt Reynolds been in a Fast & Furious movie yet?

F8 Of The Furious was the second time this year (after Logan) where driverless vehicles factored into the story. I guess Transformers 5 will also count. The might be the next drones.

A remake of Smokey and the Bandit, to modernize the bootlegging, would be a truckful of westcoast weed being shipped east to the states that haven't legalized it yet (maybe Chicago or NYC?), and there'd be lots of cop cars exploding. You could even throw in a sub-plot where the father/son set a side-bet where they inform other people about the haul so they can try to rob it and get the payday for themselves, like the middle part of Need for Speed. Could be pretty cool if done well.

You could get more literal with it and they could smuggle speed.

I liked Starship Troopers II: Hero of the Federation. It's not a great movie but they got despite the direct to video budget they got the same people who did the effects for the first movie to work on it and for the most part it holds up because of that. But also because most of the movie is a trashy mash-up of Pitch Black and The Thing rather than all other Starship Troopers sequels/spinoff things where they try to show a huge war again.

Jonathan Pryce and Rossy de Palma were in the 2000 cast as I recall, though obviously Pryce at least would have been a different role.

Really hope they keep the same sort of giant puppet props from Lost in La Mancha, though I have a feeling this is going to be a lot tighter budget than that version.

The CGI one, whatever it was called, was amazing, since they retained the occasional casual nudity of the first, but in CGI. The results were...interesting.

This would actually make me want to see these movies.

But there would have to be no explanation. No jokes, no characters going "Uh, why did we just sing that?" like it's the cleverest thing ever. Just: Phantom shows up, it's an opera, Phantom leaves, back to normal.
