And, is that just something you say by habit? Because, uh, if you're trying to get away from the Tories, and your plan is to run to the country dominated by Republicans, then you must be running from the Tories because they don't go far enough, the spineless little shits. Which, if so, come on over I guess... it's not going to make much difference at this point and you'll fit right in, in like Indiana or some poo poo. But if you're coming over here because you prefer the jam guy - well we don't have any jam, but we've got cheetos.

Guess I just fell into the trap of assuming UK is like Ireland. Where we just kind of half-heartedly wave the polling card at the old lady at the polling station. Id feel like a knob turning up with nothing though

But rules are rules and, regardless of the pros and cons of the law, you don't actually need ID to vote.

Anyone minded to commit electoral fraud can just say "no" if asked for ID, so I can't see the point of asking under the current system.

Voted (in a safe Labour seat).

If I'm only interested in the macro result rather than the fate of individual seats/MPs, is the exit poll typically enough to indicate the lay of the land?

polls close 10pm BST, so that's 5pm your time. There'll be an exit poll which has largely proved correct historically so you'll probably know then.

I live in a Lib Dem/ Tory marginal ( historically Lib, but Tory won in 2915 with 4%) where Labour polled less than UKIP last time (7.8%). Labour haven't even sent out any election leaflets as far as I can tell.

I really don't know if I can do the allegedly sensible thing and vote Lib Dem, coz gently caress that shitweasal Farron

yea, they pick certain polling stations that help them with their model and survey there. It's reasonably accurate, more so than polling has been.

Ours is a new candidate. The previous incumbent was Steve Webb ( former Pensions minister in the coalition )and I think despite about fifteen years of reasonable good service to the area he got ducked hard over the coalition.

Gah. For the first time in my life, having voted since 1992, I've got a manifesto and leader of a party I truly believe in, and I can't even vote for his party without it potentially being the wrong move.

Honestly if Labour's got no chance in your seat vote lib dem if it keeps the tories out.

Shite as it is it's better than the tories winning.
