28 of Wales' 40 seats are Labour, only 8 are Tory (the other 4 are Plaid Cymru).

Edit: Though that site predicts Labour would go from having 70% of Wales' seats to about 75% while the Tories would go from 20% to 15%, so not all bad for Labour I guess? Nationally that would mean Welsh Labour go from holding 4.3% of seats to 3.6%, while Welsh Tories go from 1.2% to 1%

That's probably just shock caused by the fact that everyone living there is inside-out as a result of climbing completely up their own arses.

Lived there for 8 years, am still not completely right.

e: ont he subject of sectarianism I met people there who didn't even know what a Catholic is so no, not really.

The Drumcree dispute in particular was pre-Parades Commission (and was a major impetus in its creation) and GFA and it only really died down because three little Catholic boys were burned to death in their beds.

Information here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drumcree_conflict

...and reading that page reminds me of why I always get the heebie-jeebies when anyone eulogises Saint Mo of Mowlam:

Weeks before the July 1997 march, Secretary of State Mo Mowlam privately decided to let the march proceed along Garvaghy Road. However, in the days leading up to the march, she insisted that no decision had been made.

She pulled lovely dishonest stunts like that at Drumcree and Ormeau Road, leading to nationalists being beaten and murdered.

Yes it comes with a ban on standing for election for 4 years and that's retroactive.

I'm genuinely shocked. This is the first time I've seen a commented BBC article where the general trend is "perhaps Brexit wasn't the best idea afterall". Normally it's page upon page of "we know better than you young loony lefties" from a bunch of retired baby boomers with nothing better to do than espouse the Gospel According to Murdoch. I guess the reality of being kicked out of their homes to pay for social care and still having to do their own sponge baths is starting to sink in.

Twelve loving months too late.

I would expect a by-election. Definitely not the first one you mentioned because formally, constitutionally speaking, political parties don't exist in our system.

Not that I know anything about anything, or have heard anything in any corridors, but recall that the State Opening of Parliament and Queen's Speech was already delayed once because of Theresa May's fit of hubris in calling a GE. Now recall that it's been delayed again because of the massive gently caress up at the GE and ensuing negotiations.
Well if I had heard anything about anything it might might involve certain (usually impartial) people outside of the Tory party being slightly less than chuffed with Theresa May.

But I must make it perfectly clear that I haven't heard anything.

The whole place has a kind of weird... I think "stepford wives" is the phrase for it though I've never actually seen it.

Like, the whole design of the town is just... off. Like someone built a model town full size and then put people in it.

So the BBC got back to me after my complaint, and it's a doozy:

BBC posted:

Dear Mehall

Thank you for contacting us about Daily Politics on 5 June.

We understand you had concerns about a piece that was shown during the programme featuring comments made by Jeremy Corbyn in 2015.

In the aftermath of the attacks in Manchester and London, the response of the government to the threat of terrorism became a significant focus of the general election campaign. In the past, Jeremy Corbyn has come under scrutiny over his attitude to dealing with the issue of national security and terrorism.

As Mr Corbyn was putting himself forward to be Prime Minister, it was important to establish his position on this, which included his views on the “shoot to kill” policy, which was used in response to the London attack. For this reason, we played a clip from an interview he did with Laura Kuenssberg in November 2015, in which he discussed at length his thoughts on this policy. We played the relevant part of the interview in full, so our audience would have been able to make up their own minds.

Shadow health secretary, Jon Ashworth, was in the studio and was able to explain Labour’s current stance on this issue. It was right that Jo Coburn challenged him on, as some people perceived, inconsistencies between what Mr Corbyn had said in a speech a day earlier, and what he said two years ago.

The clip we used from the 2015 interview fairly and accurately reflected what Mr Corbyn had said. The BBC Trust finding on this interview was specifically related to how this had been represented during a report on the BBC News at Six. It should be noted that while BBC News respected this finding, they did not agree with it. The Trust themselves said that there had been “no evidence of bias” in relation to the News at Six report.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.

Kind Regards
