Also the french election is a really annoying tale of the french left's inability to coordinate for more than a few months. France Insoumise vote share in a lot of places would have given them very close to the vote tallies needed to win first rounds, and in most of those they're not even making the runoffs because they ran like 4-5 candidates against each other instead.

Ro Khanna unseated Mike Honda using gobs of Silicon Valley money. I mean, it'd be nice if people like he and Kristen Gillibrand suddenly grew a conscience and/or saw where the wind was blowing, but then I remember that Gavin Newsom was once married to Kim Guilfoyle.

Shear Modulus posted:the trick with germany is they are sticking with the old-style system where the immiseration and rent extraction is outsourced to other countries That more has to do with the euro currency system being fundamentally flawed (though it's perpetuated by Germany having no issue with the status quo) which results in nations whose economies fall apart having huge snowball issues. I don't really know what the current political trends are in Germany but Austria recently elected a loving green party member president so lol

In some ways, it's actually good that we're seeing political opportunists disguise themselves as progressives, because they wouldn't be bothering if they didn't think there was something to gain in appealing to progressive ideas. Doesn't make them good, but it's a good sign.

A great example of how individual Germans at least view workers rights is that when Wal-mart tried to expand into Germany they were partially ran out of business because German shoppers hated how much walmart demeaned it's own employee's.
