So to be clear: UK parliament includes marginalized groups from U.K. Parliament members whose goals are *so far right of the norm that they could threaten the entire government if included in a minority coalition *so far outside the norm of U.K. government that they will never take their seats from an ideological standpoint And the entire government is being held hostage because of both of these taking seats and not taking seats, respectively Because the GB parliament couldn't reach a popular vote majority on their own

thecluckmeme posted:Basically what i was getting at, just from a seats-based break between the DUP and SF The UK parliamentary system does not require parties, or majorities. You vote for your local representative and then all the reps get together to form some kind of government (allegedly to advise the queen, once upon a time). That the system "breaks" when nobody gets a majority is a problem, technically, with the members of parliament because they haven't been able to reach an agreement, not the system itself. What should happen is that they organize to put some sort of government together even if it doesn't involve anyone having the ability to pass legislation on their own terms, you get a minority government which basically means the government has to get the agreement of a majority of the house, across all parties, to pass things. This becomes a problem only when the majority of members are too bloody minded to agree to anything or when both parties are ideologically committed to completely different ways of running the country, as now.

thecluckmeme posted:Basically what i was getting at, just from a seats-based break between the DUP and SF The parties have too little control over their MPs for anything else to happen, it's a feature of single-seat constituencies. Within a representative system with party lists a minority government would have been business as usual instead of CRISIS CRISIS PANIC HUNG HUNG HUNG

Didnt Goves wife write some article on how they dont sleep together or gently caress? Ahh here it is: quote:In a column for the Daily Mail entitled, "Sorry chaps but women love sleep FAR more than sex", the wife of the Conservative MP, with whom she has two children, wrote in favour of the Victorian tradition of separate bedrooms. Referring to sex as "quite impractical", Vine explained how occupying the same bed is often "unsatisfactory for both parties" and compared the marital bed to "a battleground for the duvet". http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/michael-goves-wife-sarah-vine-hails-separate-bedrooms-as-key-to-a-happy-marriage-a6775931.html e: ( to be fair i find sleeping with a women rather annoying most of the time so she has a point ... and actually thinking about it further what woman would possibly want to gently caress that guy so on reflection im 100% in agreement with her in her situation ) Seaside Loafer fucked around with this message at 10:44 on Jun 13, 2017 |

Akehurst continues to be a poo poo. http://labourlist.org/2017/06/luke-akehurst-corbyn-deserves-credit-now-he-must-banish-the-entryists-and-bring-back-shadow-cabinet-elections/ Akehurst posted:Jeremy Corbyn performed far better in the glare of campaign scrutiny than anyone expected or his performance between 2015 and 2017 had suggested. If he had been this strong before the election it’s unlikely there would have been serious internal dissent in the party. If he had been this strong in the Brexit referendum, Remain would have won it. Other shadow cabinet members including but not limited to Angela Rayner, Barry Gardiner, Andrew Gwynne and Jon Ashworth also performed well in the campaign. Except maybe his supporters who've been saying this forever ...

You know it really talks to how little these people interact with actual young people that they thought Corbyn's popularity with young people could be compared to the Milifandom. Like, I've seen people I know had no interest in politics posting stuff on Facebook and tweeting about Corbyn. I wasn't even aware the Milifandom was a thing until after the election and I'm a member of the party (though admittedly, a pretty disillusioned one in early 2015),

Sectarian antics of momentum that actually won votes for labour...those bastards. I am still confused as to why Sinn Fein won't take up their seats if they are so opposed to the DUP having any power in UK government. Surely that is enough?

IceG posted:Sectarian antics of momentum that actually won votes for labour...those bastards. Sinn Fein does not recognise British authority over NI as in any way legitimate and abstain because of that and because as republicans they would have to swear loyalty to the queen. They split in 1970 over the issue of abstensionism, it's a big thing for them, bigger than any opportunistic blow they could strike against the tories or DUP.
