Still, it is worth a try- anything to protect yourself from the significant personal cost that will come from being shackled to the 52%. Something has to be done! If we cant stop Brexit, and cant count on any support from May or Corbyn, then we must be afforded the chance to insulate our personal selves from this. We have to demonstrate to the citizens of the EU 27 that at least some of us Brits value our rights as EU citizens, and that we are willing to participate in a process of ever greater Union.

I have labour voting friends in medway I had to stop talking on FB to about politics because they were totally insistent Class is not real.

Not the idea of a middle class, they think there's no difference between being rich and poor, or white and black, or male or female. And yet voted Labour.

Perhaps it is the case that a petition in and of itself lacks the profile and visibility to be taken seriously by the relevant authorities of the EU. If that is the case, then Remainers are going to have to make themselves more visible if they want to at least attempt to protect their rights from the predations of the xenophobic Tory elites. It may also be the case that demonstrations in the UK may not be sufficient- we might have to march to Brussels, right outside the Commission and Ministry buildings in Schuman before we are noticed by both the UK and wider European press. Remainers need to start realising that they are in a fight for their livelihoods, homes, public services and, if my predictions prove true, their very lives.

Like what? What is more important than Brexit? Which single issue will have more bearing on the livelihood and welfare of each and every person in Britain? Is it not the case that neither Tory austerity, nor Labour Socialism will work in a nation that forfeits 44% of its exports whilst increasing its trade deficit on the back of a terminally weakened currency? Is it not the case that to become apathetic of this issue is to accept a future blighted by penury and poverty, and a government devoted simply to the piecemeal management of a crisis, whether under the auspices of Tory or Labour? The Brexit windmill is now the gyre about which all other windmills turn.

I agree with you. Just saying that they'll try to divert anger toward him to avoid other annoying question. I have also seem other newspaper report on the owners of the cladding company (the one which went under) showing their 1million $ house and aston martin. I'm not dogpiling the guy, I'm telling him hoping that organising a citizens initiative, or getting a few people to protest outside of the EU institutions is about as futile a set of gestures as you can make, particularly in this context. Citizens initiatives are largely ignored or rejected on technicalities, and individuals protesting about something that is largely about intergovernmental relations between states will be just as ineffective, particularly as it can easily be framed as ignoring both the popular will and the state position at the same time.

no? why would you think that? Austerity is a series of policies designed to transfer wealth from the poorest to the richest.

Serious upheaval like Brexit will have a similar effect but it doesn't indicate what's going to be in the budget
