It would be weird as gently caress to hear a politician say "we want to do X thing to help the lower class." Like we have to be inherently admitting that classes exist and are a thing if we say we want to do things to help out the middle class. You can't have a middle without something below and above it. And yet it is like the most taboo of things to actually say "lower class" out loud. I know, I know, everyone is middle class and words have no meaning anymore. But still. It's pretty hosed up.

The Butcher posted:It would be weird as gently caress to hear a politician say "we want to do X thing to help the lower class." There is nothing but the middle class, those working hard to join the middle class, the upper middle class making $250k a year that actually get the middle class tax cuts and benefit from the middle class tax credits, and the 1% who we can't go after because they're the job creators and if we tax them they'll take their fast food joints and grocery stores and move them somewhere with a more desirable tax climate.

Like it's a literal fighting words insult to call someone "lower class". Which means being lower class is bad and undesirable. But you can't have a middle class without a lower class to rise above. That's a pretty hosed up way to structure your society. It seems the only fair and just solution would be to dissolve all classes so all men stand equal. Original idea Do Not Steal.

Nothing beat Emmanuel movies though, they showed the French knew how to make a spankable movie without getting all arty like the Italians. This was also how I saw stuff like Brazil or Delicatessen. I'm glad I read back in the thread, because I'm been really confused at why people hate the Liberials, but love the Cons here in Ontario. There isn't that much of a difference economically, but socially they're way off (i'm including poo poo that makes it affordable to live and minimum wage increase as social). I'm finding people are all "yea gently caress Wynn, the Cons will come back and restart the housing market so my house will be worth 3 million and I won't have to pay the lazy Philippinos that work at my store a livable wage! no loving dyke is gonna tell me I have to pay these people 1$15 an hour. There's 2 things that are really hosed up about the Liberals "Middle Class" messaging, one you covered, it's like literally everyone from people making minimum wage to people making like 180k in office jobs all truly believe they are the middle class which apparently just means you can afford shelter and maybe food every day of the week. The 2nd hosed up part is a lot of people that know they are part of the lower class will actively vote against their own interests so that they day they live out the Canadian dream and join that middle class they don't have to pay extra tax on their future hypothetical middle class wage. In the US people actively pushed back against an increased estate tax over 5 million because what if they won the lottery and then died, their kids wouldn't get the rest of that excessive wealth!

Your ten million dollars is now two hundred fifty thousand dollars a year in perpetuity. Don't invest in crazy schemes or overextend your credit, and you're golden. Also, don't lend to your family. http://www.metronews.ca/news/ottawa/2017/06/25/conservative-leader-andrew-scheer-talks-about-his-policies.html Here's one of the more telling interviews Scheer has done so far, looks like most of the policies he will adopt will basically be focused around undoing things the Liberals have done. I think he's going to have a hard time convincing young people that expanded CPP and EI are a bad thing for them and the transit pass thing isn't going to win an election. I think the CPC will be looking for a new leader again after 2019.
