What? No, a face-down penny is bad luck so you flip it over for the next person who finds it 'cause you might get some of their luck down the line, but you can't pick it up after you flipped it, Luck knows what you're trying to pull and will absolutely screw you over. Kids these days, I swear. Anyway, is this a plot twist is Mark Trail? How long has this story been going? Remember when Jam first took over and we got excited because there was action? Like that time Mark cut a diver's air hose (I know you see him swim away in a later strip but damnit, as far as I'm concerned he killed that man)?

Isn't that special?" Allow me to put on the world's ugliest hat, that of "Funky Winkerbean Apologist": I think those Sundays are great. He's commissioning a lot of great old comic artists to produce work, and gets it in front of arguably fresh eyes (my mom, for example, doesn't know who Russ Heath or Paul Gulacy or Michael Golden are, but she reads the comics in the paper she still subscribes to just like anyone else). That one being Russ Heath, in particular, reminded me of this comic, and the particularly the fact that a lot of these artistic greats aren't necessarily living high on the hog in their retirements.

Vargo posted:Big Nate Any of the teachers I know would be BEYOND THRILLED at hearing their student went and did all that because they were the inspiration. They wouldn't be bitter at their own lack of success. It's possible I don't know lovely teachers, but I know all the old retired teachers I've heard talking about their teaching days are always the most proud of someone they taught who called them an inspiration. I dated a music teacher for a while and it was the same with her, except she taught elementary schoolers so it was more that she wanted to get them excited about music. Maybe I'm just forgetting any bitter teachers I had, or it's because I grew up in a small town, I dunno. Edit: Huzzah! posted:ah yeah, 3 megs of porn. Like that time Mark cut a diver's air hose (I know you see him swim away in a later strip but damnit, as far as I'm concerned he killed that man)? Mark Trail sucks and I'm convinced it's only a matter of time before it goes to just the big Sunday "Nature Facts" thing that will never die. I don't think you can entirely blame James Allen for that but he sure isn't the one that's going to turn that all around. He's pissing off the old people that liked the old comic, and the new way of doing things he does is poorly written and doesn't fit the Mark Trail style. Just look at this: For one, he's trying to "sex up" Cherry here, which in itself is weird and off-putting to long-term readers, but also to do that he makes a terribly proportioned bikini body probably taken from a photo, and plops Cherry's 1940s head just right on top of it. It just doesn't fit together or work in any way. His drawings of women are frankly disturbing to me altogether, really. I don't think he's a pervert, but they're clearly there just for "show." It's a shame because I was excited when he started and showed Mark doing rock climbing and stuff. I think if you are going to try to update this strip though you're either going to have to update the style entirely or get way better writing. Or both. But maybe an old comic strip about a nature photographer having outdoor family-friendly adventures can only be stretched so far, and 70+ years is about it. None of this is stopping me from posting it for the time being though. F Minus Mark Trail His drawings of men are bad too, but at least he's trying to make them unique.
