i appreciated that post, at least. i wasn't all that clear on the lubavitchers- i know that they're far less isolated than other hasidic sects and figured that they were much better at PR, but didn't know that they kept women house-bound to that degree. and yeah, those yellow flags with the crown on them aren't very subtle, especially when they have "MOSHIACH" below them. my ex-gf's best friend when i was going out with her was in the chabad community (albeit on Utica Ave. where there is far more interaction with the black, mostly West Indian community than in other parts) and she wasn't a fan of following that song and dance. to drive it home, i once lived 10 blocks north of their headquarters on Kingston Ave. and i had very little idea about the specific stuff at least there is a decent kosher dining scene there. i want to go to the BBQ place to get brisket i will say, i do find it weird that the guy who posted that only registered today, presumably just to make a big effortpost about hasidim

I'm not in a position to assess the quality of the scholarship, but I thought it was informative. Guy needs some serious editing work though. Edit: although I just checked the reg date and that does scream crank. mrmcd has issued a correction as of 04:23 on Jul 21, 2017 |

Good news!quote:ALBANY — Less than a year after it started, the state Office for Information Technology Services is backing away from the outsourcing of its help desk, and will be once again have state workers assume many of those responsibilities.

Gentrification is hitting Crown Heights hard right now - there are luxury buildings going up on pretty much every block. poo poo is ridiculous and I am pretty much stuck in my apartment. Every time I see another place with "Breukelen" in the name I cringe a little harder.

But bundle it with being almost a poster child for gentrification now it's become the lightning rod

If Crown Heights is the New Williamsburg thanks to the L shut down then will the new Bushwick be Sunset Park or like Ditmas Park/Lefferts Garden or Prospect Heights? The nice streak of restaurants and bars on Courtelyou makes me nervous, and I hope that Kensington never gets desirable, really.

I know a half dozen people who have left Crown Heights for Sunset Park this summer. From my chair right now I can literally see 5 construction sites, all of which are luxury condos going for sale. I don't know who the hell is going to buy them, cause its sure as poo poo not anyone here now. At least my apartment is rent stabilized so I can at least be stuck here and not outright priced out.

I'm pretty deep in this operation having worked both at ITS and later for a company that does some of the outsourced Helpdesk. let me tell you there are no good guys in this story. the main (but never publicly stated) reason for outsourcing it in the first place was that ITS is loving terrible and completely unresponsive to the customers. That IBM and others hosed up the outsource so bad is another issue and cheers to Robert Samson for righting the ship. OFT/ITS have been bad news from the get go for 20 years now, and the big reason why the state of NY spend more on IT services than anyone else. sometime I'll work up an effort post about my time there because it's a long lovely story that ruined my faith in Government.

what should upstaters do? wait for GE and Chevy to hire in Schenectady and Tonawanda again? as long as the economic fate of upstate is dictated by the whims of the City, there won't be any big new factory built, or anything that would bring any large number of jobs in. I mean the proof is in the pudding, anywhere I travel in south and west I meet people from upstate.

Build our own drat factories as a large scale effort in creating hubs of renewable energy across the country. More importantly, Trump said he cared about these places, that he cared about the forgotten men and women of this country. Yeah no poo poo he didn't, he's a real estate developer from new york city; but that populist message moved people. This is the clearest signal possible that he didn't.

Downstate NY has more power than upstate NY. Upstate NY has vastly disproportionately more power than it ought to because suburban republicans buy off upstate legislators on the regular to maintain an overall balance of control over the city.

Look at the places that are rich and well kept. They have power. Look at the places that are destitute and ignored. They do not. It's that simple.
