It was incredibly appropriate that the the very first thing Beet did after coming back to this trainwreck was causing the most prolific SC streamer to ragequit without even trying. Like he spawned, and shot a spaceman, that's all.

Also yes, Titanfall 2 is extremely fun. So is DOOM, and also probably Wolfenstein, which I haven't played. You should try all of these games, they are finished and you can play them right now!

A big part of this is that the people who have backed this are literally trying to live vicariously through chris roberts.

Where it gets fascinating is when you realize that in the mind of a whale the "connection" to chris goes both ways. Of course Chris is emotionally distraught that someone is badmouthing star citizen because the fans get emotionally distraught when someone (derek) does the same thing.

In their mind all of the "goon spread negativity" of this game is actually putting the game at risk of not coming out; not because The Goons (tm) were right but because Chris and the team were so flustered and hurt by what was said they couldn't get any work done.

Thus Derek and any who believe as he does are the enemy and must be stopped.

The TW:WH chat is killing me right now. Love Total War, very fond of Warhammer but only from afar as I've never touched a piece of the tabletop. I just don't have enough time to get through a TW game right now.

I remember during a brief sub-lease in the summer, it was going to take two weeks to get an internet install. So I went down to walmart, grabbed Total War Medieval II and, with a brief break from my job, basically didn't know what time of day it was for two weeks and started to dissociate from circadian sleep rhythm. That was a pretty good game.

I'll be the devils advocate here... There is a logic to that. Kind of.
Star Citizen is crowd funded (well mainly, and I guess almost exclusively as far as the backers know, recent loan aside). Anyone would tell you that negativity and drama during a crowdfunding campaign is a bad thing because it drives potential new backers away (and possibly existing ones). The project sort of gets a grace period -especially from its own backers-, unless it is an obvious scam from the get go or something.

And this defense mechanism kicking in would be a fine and understandable (to a point) reaction, if Star Citizen had completed their campaign years ago (and ideally within their kickstarter), and CIG amassed their target sum and focused on working on the game. Because that "backers fight against negativity" would have completed its circle years ago.

Problem of course is that Star Citizen has been in perpetual crowd funding state and CIG has no intention of changing this strategy. In fact they are working towards enhancing it as much as possible.

So, excluding the obvious shills, it seems that the backers who stayed close to the project are starting to go a bit mad (the bad kind) because they are still trying to prevent negativity and criticism all this time. And the result is sad really, because they are like suspended in time and probably have forgotten what it is that would release them from this state.

The one thing we should have learned by now is that time and Star Citizen makes fools of us all. The SC faithful have been so sure that total success is just around the corner for so long. And the SC skeptics have been so sure that total collapse has been just around the corner for so long. And everyone has been wrong.

Star Citizen continues to defy expectations in all directions. It lumbers along blatantly defying the laws of physics, finances, and project management and it just can't die. But it can't live either. And everyone involved, with each passing month, finds themselves thinking "surely it can't continue". Surely they have to release something. Surely there has to be progress. Surely they'll have to come clean. Surely it can't go on like this. But it goes on.

This is purgatory. We are caught in purgatory--in the limbo between dreams and disaster. The people who have forgotten Star Citizen are the only ones who are free. We who choose to watch this slow collapse are just as trapped as those who hope they are watching a slow assembly. Time has no meaning here for us. We repeat actions and complaints and sick burns and pizza fights endlessly. We will do this for eternity. All of us, together, in these grey stimperial wastes.

We've been living identical, diametrically opposed circle jerks for literal years, the one balancing the other in an objectively autistic dance.

But the most impressive thing about Star Citizen is that nothing ever happens. Nothing. It neither fails nor succeeds. It neither lives nor dies. It's just a thing that's there, like a hill. It serves no purpose, it has no intrinsic value and, much like the rest of this universe, the only meaning to be found comes from within. All of your experiences, beliefs, desires, and predispositions get tacked on like so many sticky-notes and I can't fight the suspicion that if Star Citizen is anything, it's a mirror.
