Yup. One of the NPCs in an Ixal daily quest explains this as you turn in some fish you caught for them.

I am currently a level 25 CUL, and I am trying to do the HQ Helm Component Ixal quest, but I am having some great difficulties.

I eat Mint Lassi, and everything but my head/ear/neck/bracelet/rings is HQ crafting gear for my level.

I usually do this:

Inner quiet > steady hand > hasty touch, then do that as often as possible, sometimes doing master's mend to repair, but I just am not loving doing enough to get high quality up.

Am I missing something? I noticed that goldsmithing thing gets something cross class at 15, do I need that?

I just want to hand in these stupid quests because I'm reputation capped

Shoulder Tackle has to be a gut punch in order to impart the maximum amount of gently caress Yeah into the level 30 PUG quest's intro cutscene.

I'm pretty sure that I have never actually *seen* the Steel Peak animation because it just gets weaved in between everything else.

I have because it's a pretty awesome 'heck yeah my shoulder is now in your face' combined with the stereotypical 'you thought you were coming up behind me but guess what fist straight into your nose punch' move.

I'm going to shill for the crafting optimizer here http://ffxiv-beta.lokyst.net/#/crafter-attributes , plug in your crafter stat on that page, pick your recipe on the simulator page, and it'll spit out a macro that'll give you the best chance of getting HQ without taking the condition stuff into account. It has yet to fail me with a level 60 CUL and 55 BSM where I crafted most of my story HQ turn ins, the only times where it has is when I put in the wrong stats or when RNG decides to gently caress me over in particular. OFC it won't always guarantee HQ stuff and there is an RNG component with hasty touches and w/e, but I think it's awesome anyway :v:

Edit: also if you have access (or a friend with access) to kugane theres a food vendor that sells decent crafter food.

You're missing a bunch of level 50 abilities, most importantly Byregot's Blessing from CRP. You're just going to have to suck it up until you get there. Keep plugging away at CUL until 37 though, because Steady Hand II is really good.

I looked up a guide which shows the best leveling path is to spam levequests

This is pain.

I either have to craft myself the items, then go to the questgiver, turn in ONE round of items, teleport back to the questgiver, then go to the target again, and repeat. What the gently caress.

Don't do those leves then. Do the triple turn-in ones, they're better XP per allowance and they don't require any footwork.

It's not that it's not good; rather, it's that it's not great at what it used to be good at, and is instead better at other things. It should always have been burst AoE (you know, the thing every other game's Summoner has done) but instead it went from strong DoTs to single-target burst. It's currently the weakest caster DPS as a result of the change, but it really only looks bad in comparison to Red Mage. If you're only comparing it to BLM, it's "trade a chunk of DPS for mobility" which isn't the worst.

If you're looking for something that doesn't require you to be a maestro, though, you'd do well to look elsewhere.

vOv
Feb 8, 2014

BLM doesn't require a lot of finger mobilit, it's all about planning and quick thinking. High-level BLM play involves knowing the fight down cold so you use your mobility tools at the right time as well as knowing whether you can afford to squeeze in one more Fire 4.

There's more than one set of leves for each level group--if you find one annoying, go to a different one. Also, in that there's a fairly limited number of leves in the rotation, you can buy/make a butt-ton of some specific item and then spend 10 minutes chain turning them in. A little running (if that's even needed--most of the delivery targets are only a few steps from a teleport location) is still [i]way[i] faster than grinding crafting.

Also don't forget to do your Grand Company provisioning turn-ins. They can give you a nice little chunk of XP, and follow the same rule of HQ item = 2x XP.

I've only done one leve turn in (albiet, like 15 of them in a row) for CUL on top of turning in GC stuff everyday, and I've gone from mid-20s to 41 without investing more than 5 minutes/day.

Is there a decent guide for which crafting skills are generally good or bad in Stormblood? I just got to 70 on CUL. I kind of came up with a crafting strategy while leveing, but I don't know if there are any good skills I'm ignoring

My basic strategy is:
Activate Inner Quiet, Whistle stacks
Steady Hand 2, Manipulation, spam Hasty Touch, repeat
Byrogot's miracle to 100% HQ or close-ish
Rumination, wheel durability whenever needed
Steady Hand 2, Rapid Synthesis to 100%

Also activating any cool looking procs that come up along the way.

However, I read that whistling is a bad skill for crafting newbies online but I don't know if that's true or not

Prudent Touch is the absolute king of quality. It effectively only costs 9 CP, because it saves you 12 CP worth of durability. A guaranteed IQ stack for 9 CP is bonkers.

Since you don't have any CC abilities, you'll also want to use Muscle Memory for progress. Focused Synthesis is also good if you have the CP for it.

Don't bother with any of the 50-60 specialist abilities, they are RNG heavy garbage. Initial Preparations with either Specialty: Reinforce or Refurbish (Reflect is usually a waste) is good for extra CP.

Don't use Rumination ever. Get CRP to 50 ASAP to get Byregot's Blessing, because miracle is the cheap knockoff version.
