From what's been going around, this has been A Thing people knew of for some time. The amount of people all mirroring each other in their comments on Nick has me thinking there's merit to it (And after Devin Faraci and Matt Hickey I'm inclined to believe that most male games journalists have a few sexual assault victims in their closets), but I'm holding off on condemning him until I see the DMs myself. Also, I really wouldn't take NeoGAF's word on anything given how they're now 40-odd pages into accusations about Nick while they barely said a word about Amri0x, their mod that was charged for possessing child porn. My first inclination- because it's progressing the same way so far -is that this is going to turn out like the Tobuscus thing where the initial allegations were incredibly serious stuff, and then it turned out that actually he's just kind of a lovely guy. We'll see though.

I do own both of the ninja sex party albums and it is true. Practically every song involves a dick in some fashion That being said there are a few alright songs. For the first album Starbomb those would be Luigi's Ballad which is about how Luigi is trying to confess his love to the princess whilst Mario will come in and interrupt with risque language and try to ply the princess to his side side of the argument after that the next one would be the zelda one. It plays a bit like smooth jazz and is primarily about the old man trying to get link to touch his unmentionables by disquising it as a weapon. All the others could be ignored although the final fantasy one was the last good one. It's setup being that Cloud was on a show about talking about simple games where he would try to explain the complicated plot of his game. Their second album Player select was mostly forgettable. I don't recall which songs are any good there.

The thing that always gets me about incidents like this is that the response is never 'ugh, this guy is a creep', it's almost always a variation of 'haha, gently caress Polygon'. I liked some of their work, I didn't like others, but what they wrote has absolutely nothing to do with the failings of this one particular guy. Certainly, the culture and policies there may or may not have allowed him to get away with it for longer than he might have, but any legitimate criticism along those grounds is drowned out in the tide of 'every last one of these guys is a terrible person at heart, now let's continue supporting openly terrible people because they're at least honest about it'. Apparently the only sin worth mentioning is hypocrisy. Obviously, there's plenty of people with reasons for genuine outrage, and if this guy is guilty then it's probably a good thing he got called out like this. I just wish the conversation around it would turn to actually productive ways of fixing this issue, but I realize I might as well be asking for water to flow uphill. A lot of nerds have a weird vendetta against games journalism that got multiplied tenfold when the editorial line for a lot of publications became more progressive. A case like this is their chance to go "HAH YOU WERE ALWAYS BAD JUST LIKE US", and it's not like they give a gently caress about the harassment, it's just a gotcha moment for them. Polygon has had some BAAAD content, but it also had pretty well-written and well-researched articles, like many other publications. They did a massive series of articles on Cuba's gaming culture and a pretty good one on Street Fighter 2's development cycle and history.

If the rumors about Nick are true, then there's the possibility that someone at Polygon knew about it and kept quiet about it. If it isn't true, then Nick's co-workers essentially threw him under the bus at the first sign of trouble.

Apparently, he was being a creep in twitter DMs, so all it would take is screenshots to verify his actions. It seems like multiple people are doing the accusing too. The bigger issue is that Nick Robinson is in so much of their content include current ongoing features. I imagine they also already have a bunch of stuff filmed that isn't posted yet. Polygon is probably going to have a hosed up video production schedule for awhile, along with all the other issues they are going to have.

EDIT: tldr for the tweets is that he asked for nudes through an optical illusion, while another was him flirting (Badly) with a girl who'd just turned 18. Not quite pedophilia since everyone could consent, but close enough that I can see why some people are overreacting beyond just wanting a target to hunt for fearmongering. It also depends on if this is a Romeo and Juliet case where he waited for her to turn 18 before flirting. I didn't watch Nick's stuff, but I feel like the witch hunt that was today was a bit much, especially since most of it was going on before any solid proof was public. Then again, I detest callout culture in general, so all this did for me was validate my opinion that these kinds of callouts get nothing done. Either way, between Nick, Devin Faraci, Matt Hickey and Robert Marmojo, I'm wondering how many other gaming journos have skeletons in their closets and who's next. Patton Oswald's tweet about "male feminists being predators is this generaton's conservative politician who's in the closet" comes to mind. My experience with the grumps is having a related video that was a "best of" someone from there, not the entire group itself but just one person, that was like 7 hours long. I thought this is how you don't plays were kinda silly.

Apparently they show his sequelitis videos in some college gaming courses. I've only seen the megaman x one but I thought it was pretty good and explained pretty well why that first level rules so much, even if a lot of it is super obvious. Arin can be very frustrating because even though I agree with him on some of his ocarina of time hate, when you watch him play it he refuses to use the shield ever. Like I agree it might not have aged as well as some people remember but when you do every fight just ADD mashing the attack button you start to look like less of an expert. Also his constantly making dick and fart jokes absolutely carries over to game grumps and gets pretty tiring. All that said though I think he's mostly alright and does have his moments. Anyway that's my take on popular gaming guy

From what I heard, the others are focusing more on their main projects (Ross is doing a cartoon series, Brian's going whole hog on writing NSP/Starbomb stuff, etc.), and since the middle slot apparently never did very well, they cut it to give everyone a bit more breathing room
