A cottage industry of self-help gurus have sprung up around these idiots to promise them all sorts of thinks they dont have to do, and eventually out did eachother by claiming you can get literal millions of dollars from the government if you fill out the right forms in red ink at 45 degrees. -bad legalese is rightly described as magic words for them. (They think yelling "I do not consent" means police have to stop doing things to them. -the will spell their name in ALL CAPS to show thats they freeman name not their cooperate name. -They think if they ever listen to a judge or follow any instructions they "create joinder" (opt in to society or "enter into a contract" to be in the legal system, which THEY totally arent) so they think if the judge says sit down and they do suddenly they have to pay taxes. -They dont know how commas work and think everyone is legally described as a boat in all laws. There are threads from time to time about them getting just loving owned by cops, usually them recording their own misfortune to post on their websites. Which are usually their magic words NOT working so its really weird why they share it? Nobody knows they are fuckheads. Occasionally it DOES work. There are examples of court things where the sovcit, representing themselves natch, will start talking and the judge just cant be loving bothered and dismisses that poo poo. Also the Bundys from the Oregon standoff tried a metric SHITTON of sovcit BS court filings which the court very carefully wasted a ton of time on. Only for terrible people from a terrible state to let them go because Oregon cares about "frontier spirit" more then thinking for any amount of time. The ways in which they try to justify that belief, ironically by invoking a twisted version of other laws, are very, very amusing and generally end in a thorough tasering. e:f,b

do u know jenny posted:So libertarians then? It's related, yeah. The sovcits get into a level where the law is literally ritual magic. If you draw the right sigils and utter the proper incantations you can make the law mean whatever you want it to mean. The basic premise in america is that the USA federal government isn't a government at all, it is a corporation incorporated in the UK and owned by the Bank of England or the Queen. State and local governments are also usually seen as corporations, not legitimate governments. Since they are corporations, you have a choice to contract with them or not. What is the legitimate government? Sheriffs. English common law circa the 1700s. Ye olde common law doesn't mention a lot of modern structures, so they don't exist. FBI isn't real, city police aren't real, they are just private security guards. The county Sheriff is the highest law enforcement authority. Presumably the nobility and royalty would also be legitimate, except that the US had a revolution to throw the bastards out and then never formed a new legitimate government. Libertarians generally believe the federal government exists, they just think it has overstepped it's constitutional authority, and most things should be governed by the state government not the federal government. Sovcits think the federal and state governments aren't really governments at all.

Is there some sovereign citizen movement there or something? edit: It's amazing how many people think they can "plead the fifth" when cops ask for their driver's license. I've also heard 7 different people say "my registration is allowed to be expired because I am not operating a commercial vehicle". How do so many people get the law wrong? Not to mention a lot of them cite youtube videos proving they are right. So obviously they go on Youtube. But don't they see the 800,000 videos of them being wrong? Also the amount of people that think driving without plates is doing nothing wrong edit 2: I am also noticing a lot of people claiming "by law, no crime has been committed if there is no injury to any persons" as if pickpocketing or burning down a vacant house isn't a crime or something Chumbawumba4ever97 fucked around with this message at 06:07 on Aug 12, 2017 |

you could probably get out of a parking ticket by showing up and being like "YOUR HONOR I CAN SEE FROM THE FLAG - just kidding. Listen, I know the officer claims I parked for 6 hours in front of an expired meter, but has that meter been rececently certified as accurate? Come on your honor, throw me a bone here!"

Extrapolate from there, and you get people believing that every law is subject to their consent. This premise was the basis of much of the Protestant reformation, especially the Anabaptists. Nobody asked them if they wanted to be a Christian and be baptized, etc (and also subject to the Church of Rome). The reformers just wanted to be able to make a sober, informed decision at the age of majority, rather than be born into the religion. Of course, the religion at the time also happened to be a good chunk of the government apparatus, so choosing to go your own way on the Christ thing was pretty much renouncing your citizenship and declaring yourself above the law. As you can imagine, wars, massacres, persecution pogroms and cult uprisings/suicides were in style for centuries because of that poo poo. Freemen just get owned in court or by cops. They don't get drowned, burned, hung or dismembered like in the bad old days.

IIRC, it's gotten to the point where judges come down as hard as they possible can against SovCit types. Possibly police too, given they'll occasionally open fire on cops without warning at traffic stops. And just when you thought that couldn't get silly enough, there are black Sovereign Citizens, apparently sometimes invoking 'Moorish Law'.
