it's kind of a no win situation for the kid in some respects, at least in theory. if you raise them white then there will always be a little dissonance when they look Asian but the voice is white and they have no stories nor roots from their apparent culture. other people will make it weird at some point or another and that's a fact. but by the same token, if you bend over backward to honor a culture that they literally only have skin deep you can end up depriving them of any home, anywhere, because they inherently have components from both. in practice, of course, most places in the united states are so desensitized to assimilated foreign looking people now that it's not a loving big deal and holy poo poo chill out you crazy knob. like make sure they learn the language, that's fine so they can go down that path if they choose to, but acting like there is some deep and mystical connection between dna and culture is incredibly dumb.

That is hilarious and absurd. If it's real someone please tell that guy that there are millions of ethnic Koreans from China who are largely culturally Chinese and if he's not going to keep it secret that's his out.

I knew a kid adopted by white parents. They FILLED their house with african art, went on a trip to a few random countries in africa when he was young, and generally just drilled "AFRICA!!!" into him despite having no idea where his roots actually were and his bio-parents were generations back all american. He was also quarter german, but his parents ignored that part. He felt absolutely no connection with africa or african american culture (if anything he had a chip on his shoulder about it due to his parents ramming it down his throat while never feeling it resonated with him) and he actually ended up seeking out on his own his german side in his late teens and going to university there and now lives in Denmark doing IT poo poo or something for a germany company. That adopted korean kid story sounds fake as hell (oh god I hope) but adoptive parents do do weird poo poo like that. Culture and race can be really generate some weird feelings growing up though. For instance this guy I met who's parents immigrated from central america to Canada, to a tiny middle of nowhere town of a thousand or so people. For his dad, Canada was the promised land and his home country, culture, and language were now obsolete and useless. His dad wanted to raise his son to be 100% Canadian, why teach him spanish? Why teach him about their former culture, they were NEVER going back? His mom hung onto the language and traditions a little, but it wasn't enough to really teach him. Growing up he felt 100% white and 100% Canadian because in this tiny town everyone knew everyone and his roots just never came up. It was only when he moved away, moved to Vancouver did he realize that to other people he was not white, and that he encountered actual racism. People would constantly ask him "where are you from?" and not take "Chetwynd" as an answer despite it being the truth. A lot of people assumed he was Indian and Indian customers would sometimes get really mad when he wouldn't tell them where in India he was from. He started to feel less Canadian and more foreign, yet when he went to a local place where a lot of Guatemalan immigrants hung out he realized he didn't speak the language well enough and felt like he didn't fit in at all, that he was just some small town white Canadian trying to pretend to be Guatemalan. So he's resenting his parents for not teaching them his language and culture, he's resenting white Canadians for seeing him as an "other" despite being born and raised here. It sent him into depression and alcoholism and it took years for him to figure himself out again. So I can understand when white parents adopt some sort of visible minority wanting to try to avoid feelings like this by giving them some sort of connection with their biological parents culture, it just generally doesn't work because you need to be pretty much immersed in it for it to rub off in any meaningful way.

I agree, the borderline stalking is weird. However, from my experiences (and I guess the social circles I was running in while I was in Korea), it never went as far as "begging for a month straight" or whatever. People just naturally gravitating towards each other due to shared hobbies and interests. Sometimes your parents would suggest you meet with a friend of a friend or whatever. I'm sure in the back of their minds the parents are already dreaming of perfect grandchildren, but it's not like they are saying "you're marrying this guy and that's final." Maybe I got super lucky, I dunno.

As I checked the adoption papers, it turned out that his parents are ethnical french. I'm a monster. I should have noticed his rudeness, constant complaining, poor body hygiene and his habit of blowing smoke in everybody's face."

I remember reading some article about black people not liking interracial adoption because they believed white people wouldnt be able to teach the children how to handle dealing with racism. Like the story about the dude in canada. Its common to see in popular media the idea of "just be who you are" but the way people see you can have a pretty loving strong effect and going to a place where you are regarded differently for reason totally beyond your control can really gently caress a dude up, hell he might start drinking or worse walking alot and loving gross women he met on the internet.

I was walking the other night and saw this. Here are the locusts lining up on a Thursday night to pay to get into this weird theme-garden place that displays "traditional Chinese culture." What it really is is a place where Han Chinese go to look at Hmong and other very distant people's cultural stuff so they can pat themselves on the back and say "Look at us, we did this." Out front is a huge statue of elephants with Brahma sitting on top, a Hindu god worshiped in other parts of SEA (such as Thailand and Burma, etc). It makes no sense to me. IMO, it's like an Inca going up to the Ohio mound builder society and saying "Wow, look at my culture!" I believe it costs quite a bit to get in (at least 100+ RMB or $15 USD).

Those people that say East Asians do not have body odor... loving LOL. It's been 32-34C (89-93F) lately, day and night without change, and the humidity is practically the same thickness. It was 33C/91F today, but the Heat Index was 41C/105F and soggy as hell. Anyway, dudes have been loving blowing out the body stink lately. Like shocking levels of musk just following them in an aura of pungent eye-watering mist. Not quite India levels, but definitely on that US Pacific Northwest Hippie or Crust Punk stench, with the unwashed "locker room smell" clothes plus horrendous foot and armpit odor. Dudes are legit foul, and even Chaoshan Girl is asking me "Why does the train smell like rotten meat suddenly?" They'll ride by slowly on their rental bikes and leave a hot trail of funk that is as persistent as any expensive perfume. Truly something awful. Some guy forced himself in front of me on the escalator, shoving me with about 15cm of space to squeeze through. It was dumb as hell and I saw it as an act of aggression. I went to do my usual "Flat Tire" and step on the back of his shoes and saw he had flip-flops, which my favorite for this. I turn my foot sideways and got both of his flops under my shoe. When we reached the top he tried to walk and both his feet came out of his shoes while he stumbled forward. I shoved past him and walked on like nothing happened. #YouGotFaced #FLOPSTOP I saw a girl about age 8 with her pants off, taking a piss, maybe a poo poo, on the sidewalk, while her dad stood there holding her pants and playing phone. I don't know how these kids don't get stage fright. BrigadierSensible posted:My Aunt is a Modi supporter, so I get a lot of that sort of stuff on my facebook feed.
