If they tried to ring up a bunch of poo poo (which is what Gypsies do, in addition to some other great scams they run, no I'm not kidding.) then I don't need video as badly because "whoops, looks like I accidentally got 12 things that were ALL mislabeled!" isn't going to fly.

My fiance [23M] is throwing a tantrum at me [23F] because he thinks his money problems are my fault.

quote:

The short and sweet of it is that he usually takes care of the bills and I pitch in wherever he needs me. My mom passed away last year and I am trying to make this holiday season for my twelve year old sister special by handling Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I suggested maybe pawning some stuff off to make a little bit of extra cash and he has been in a foul mood since. We've been together a little over five years.

Just a few minutes ago, we got into it because he threw a huge tantrum and starting laying his games out to pawn but he really was only doing it annoy me. Finally, he accuses me of being the reason we never have a lot of money and I will admit I lost it; I have not bought new clothes in over five years, I am down to two bras and the only thing I ever spend money on is food. Now, with me trying so many ways to help save money, make the holidays special and even avoiding going to the doctors to get my severe depression treated, he has the gall to blame me when he is the one that never listens to my suggestions (we also live with and help support my elderly father : /)

I work, I go to school, I volunteer and I do my best to step into my mother's shoes for my sister and I get no respect and no one listens to me. Please, reddit, what can I do so I do not lose my mind? I should also note that a lot of the bills are due to his decisions i.e smartphones (I was happy with the crappy prepaid from Walmart for 45 a month), the car that HE went for, the high insurance due to HIS speeding tickets > : (, you get the point. He also spends a lot of money on games which I am usually alright with because I love games too but I have my limits.

Am I just being a packmule here, reddit? Between by tween sister, my dad and my fiance, I feel like no one cares about my efforts and I am furious that I am baring even more blame for something I did not do.

TL;DR: I try to make the holidays special, fiance throws tantrum and accuses me of being the reason the bills are out of control

Theft of <$500 is a class C misdemeanor (here) so its basically like a traffic ticket. The question is always, "can you prove it?" So you get all kinds of evidence coming through, which is generally some mishmash of video, the receipt for what they actually paid, witness statement from loss prevention/floor employee.

Edit: for reference, when WalMart or whoever catches you shoplifting, they call the cops, file a police report, and then send all their evidence over to the investigator who forwards it on to the prosecutor.

Generally they would try to have video following you from the meat counter picking up the cheap meat and loving with the sticker, then picking up the more expensive meat and loving with the sticker, and then when you get to the scanner the receipt will show the cheap meat was scanned. Then loss prevention or whoever would testify that they observed the meat, and that the new sticker had been hastily placed over the old one, and they removed it, and blah blah blah.

I mean, at that point he's gonna be asking for a jury trial, and trying to convince the jury that the sticker from the cheap meat that he clearly hosed with on video SOMEHOW MAGICALLY ended up on the other meat he tried to buy. Its not a good look.

And if you're looking at a misdemeanor theft conviction on your record, odds are you'll see the light and pay the fine and take deferred so you don't get permanently labelled as someone who tries to beat the meat.

cool, yeah i just meant if they didn't see you, or have video, and basically wanted to accuse you at the checkout of theft it'd go poorly

the last bit is interesting - so hypothetically if i run around lifting stuff <500 it never shows on a criminal background check?

I pay $50/mo for a smartphone. I really don't get how the heck she's paying $45/mo for a dumb phone or acting like a smartphone is more than $60/mo. Did they really buy a new iphone or galaxy swhatever if they're broke and then pay ridiculous amounts of money per month?

Why are you supporting your elderly father if you're broke? Why is your boyfriend buying games if you're broke? Why are you volunteering if you can't even buy clothing? Why do you have an expensive car if you're broke? Everything in this story is baffling except for wanting to do thanksgiving dinner for her sister. How are they both broke if they both work? What is her boyfriend's job? What about her elderly father's income?

Most misdemeanor courts are plugged into state-wide warrant systems, so yeah, it would show up depending on where you got convicted at. Misdemeanor means you probably aren't going to jail, so if you beat the charge, or get it dismissed and there is no arrest record, it shouldn't show up, though.

Supporting the father one way or another is a moral obligation, depending on how he treats them, especially so soon after her mother's death.

The rest of that poo poo sounds like the bf has poo poo money management skills, but since it's his money he can do that.

I can agree with this. I just kinda wonder if she left something out, because she's asking "is it me?" without listing anything she spends money on.

I mean, volunteering is fine too if it's a few hours per week and you find it to be a recreational activity. She also says he pays the bills? So, I kinda don't get where her money is going.

tmobile recently changed to where you pay like 80/90 + taxes for unlimited data and reduce by having multiple people on the plan

it sucks because what they did basically is decouple data and text/phone.

So you paid like 30 for talk/text + 20 for data. They let you change the data plan month to month, so if I was going on vacation I'd get an unlimited plan, but normally I'd rely heavily on wifi. Only now they only have to grandfather in my 2GB, so my options are keep the 2GB (which is cheap and nice) or go to a much higher rated plan

(luckily I can use wifi at home and work and then just stick to podcasts commuting so it's not a huge deal)

tldr: gently caress tmobile

I [24F] have been dating my BF [25M] for nearly five years. He is a Jehovah Witness and his family still does not know about me.

quote:

Hi, first time posting. Long time lurker of reddit.

Like the title says, I have been dating my boyfriend for nearly five years. We met in university. When I first found out he is a JW, it was roughly three months into dating. I remember feeling like we were doomed from the start because of our religious beliefs. I'm Catholic, but only through the sacraments (My parents decided to place me in Catholic school). I believe in a higher form, but I do not attend mass at all - not even for Christmas or Easter. Living a religion free life has been fine for me.

Before we started dating, my BF knew I was Catholic but he chose to pursue me anyway. I asked him why he went after me when we we had such different religious beliefs and all he could say was, "I don't know. I just love being with you." I asked him if I could ever meet his family and in more or less words he said no. Only a few close cousins and friends know of me. Otherwise, it's like I don't exist in "his" world. My family and friends know all about him but most don't know he is a JW.

My mom asks me why I haven't met his family yet, and she thinks it's because we are different ethnicities (I'm Chinese and he's Korean). She said she feels sad for me that I have to remain hidden in his life like I am something to be ashamed of.

I have tried to bring this up with him before but he doesn't like to talk about it. I feel like I have to piece parts of the puzzle together and have him confirm it. For example, I came to the conclusion that he doesn't want to introduce me until he thinks we are ready to get married. He admitted that yes, this was the case. In order to be ready to get married, we would both have to be financially stable (especially him - he would want to be ready to support himself in case he gets shunned).

We are both currently living at home. I finished university and he dropped out two years into it. I'm still at an entry level job and he's worked odd sales job here and there. I'm feeling frustrated that he's not putting more effort into becoming independent so we could have a chance at a future together. He gets upset whenever I bring this up and I start to feel like I'm nagging so I drop the entire thing.

If it weren't for the religion and it weren't for the career thing (aka two major things), everything would be perfect. I'm happiest when I'm with him and I can confide everything with him. We're each others first relationship and I don't want to throw it away on this. I want to make it work but I feel like I'm the only one who can bring it up. I know he loves me, and sometimes he'll say he knows he's taking me for granted and will do better but... i want to see him actually do better and not just say it. Now he's saying he wants to open his own business or go into real estate.

I'm really sad. When I look 5, 10 etc years down the road I see him beside me but not if I can't willingly be a part of his life. I don't know how to motivate him to work hard for what he wants, or if I will ever be accepted into his family. Is there anything I can do? I've been crying every night for the past week trying to figure out what to do and I'm stuck
.
tl;dr: My boyfriend won't introduce me to his family until he thinks we are ready to get married, but is not taking the necessary steps to be "ready" (financially, etc).

Divorcing, turns out we were never legally married, husband says I don't have rights to our property OR our kids

quote:

Last week I asked my husband for a divorce. He countered by announcing that we were never actually married in the first place. We were married in 2007 by his family priest, who is a close friend of his mother's. I never questioned the credentials of the priest because why would I?

Turns out that the priest was fully defrocked shortly before our marriage, for reasons no one will share with me. My husband says that at the time he was appealing the loss of his priesthood, but "it didn't stick". He (my husband) seems to have known the whole time that our marriage wasn't legal, looking at it as a potential out just in case, but he won't confirm this either way (I'm guessing if he did know it was some kind of fraud). My mother in law tearfully confirmed the situation, saying she didn't think it was a big deal at the time because she assumed the appeal would go through. I don't have any reason to doubt her about any of this.

My husband is now saying that because we aren't really married, I don't have any equity in our house or rights to our things. Worst of all, since he insisted on getting paternity tests on our kids (7 & 4) as infants, HE has parental rights, but not me, since there isn't any proof that I'm their mom. Obviously I'm on their birth certificate but he says that doesn't mean anything because he has DNA proof and I don't. I don't really believe this, but I know that unmarried parents don't necessarily have rights without going through the courts so I wanted to check.

My husband says that he's consulted with a lawyer and that this is just like a "regular breakup". He's given me 30 days notice to leave our house since he owned it outright before our "marriage"/union/whatever. Obviously I have an appointment with my own attorney on Friday, but my head is going to be going a million miles an hour till then so I guess I'm just looking for some...info? Confirmation of his bluffs? Anything would be appreciated.

Tl;dr: Priest who "married" my husband and me was defrocked before our ceremony and didn't legally marry us. Husband says this means I have no rights to our property or kids. Looking for more information.

I can't tell which I think is funnier, trying to convince the court that the mother on the birth certificate isn't the real mother or trying to say that the marriage never accounted after jointly filing for 10 years.

Can confirm. Getting residency there is a giant pain in the rear end of paperwork and wait times.

Better than a lot of of other places, but the whole process seems designed to dissuade all but the most determined and/or those who can afford a lawyer.

Oh, this is a juicy juicy case. There will be records going back years where she was acting in good faith about being married, and with him being a fraud. He done hosed himself good on this one. Hopefully she already got a lawyer on it.

My only worry is she won't keep her back straight and proud throughout the inevitable emotional bullshit he'll try to put her through, and she'll cave somewhere.

Or that hospitals have records of her being admitted and a birth certificate. The mother is not usually in question for parentage since, you know, witnesses saw the children come out of her body.
