The Spurs all time team is weird.

First, Hakeem is higher than Robinson which is a joke. It still confounds me that Robinson doesn't get the respect he deserves.

Rodman is hilarious. He's an 89 in Detroit, 84 in San Antonio, and 93 in Chicago. I guess that means we can add at least 5 point to every Spurs player for an anti Spurs bias.

Zogobot please compute Bostons chances with such poor roster continuity

Assuming Horford, Smart, Brown and Rozier play the same number of minutes in 2018 and the team plays the same amount (82 games and 15 OT periods) they'd have a RC% of 36.4%. No team has won a title with a number close to that. No team has even gone to the finals with a number like that in the 3P era (I'm going to check the earlier years later at some point).

However, some in the media are calling BOS legit contenders now. I wouldn't trust them.

Libertine posted:

Since everyone thinks Cleveland brutally won this trade talk me out of my insanity I guess.

BOS wasn't a great team last year (they were just in a very weak conference) and now they've had massive roster upheaval. Projecting out five years is difficult unless you have the orange infinity gem. It's like saying the 76ers are going to dominate the 2000s when in reality the 2003 draft happened.

2018 CLE with Kyrie/LBJ and Love seems like the big favorite. Going to the finals isn't easy but they should've and would've been the big favorites even considering LBJ going for an eighth straight appearance.

Gordon Hayward isn't going to be a massive roadblock for LBJ. Bulls/Pacers are gutted. Wade's probably joining too. The Raptors will probably explode again etc.

IMO, the Hawks team with Pistol Pete, Dr J, and Lou Hudson is one of the all time what could have been lineups. Dr J got tired of the ABA and tried to jump to the NBA, but the ABA sued and he was forced to go back to the ABA before he played the end of preseason.

Pete Maravich was such a gigantic chucker that he'd probably nullify the other two. It's the same situation the Lakers faced in the 1960s with Elgin Baylor derailing West/Goodrich and other teammates. It isn't a coincidence that the LA Lakers won their first title after Elgin left the team.

Libertine posted:

If you are going to roll this comparison, you should roll it for their Playoffs Advanced numbers.

I can spoil the result for you though if you want.

Preeminence should be given to the regular season as it's a much bigger dataset. The playoffs are short enough that all kinds of players can be situationally overrated (mostly while playing next to the true elites).

e.g. Birdman had by far the highest WS/48 in 2013. Tiago Splitter had the #2 WS/48 in 2014. Darren Collison #2 in 2012. Whiteside #2 last year etc. Not bad players but they wouldn't be doing that in regular season.

IT playing alongside LBJ in the playoffs may start to look like Curry.

I'd love to see a return of the Windhorst versions because it hit a nice balance of content and fun.
