drat, really? Parallel is about 3 inches above my chest for me. And I've also noticed when I get tender spots near my pec minor after benching, it's only the motion of pulling my arm way behind me body that seems to bother it(although it's gotten a lot better lately with mobility work). I think I may start leaving a couple of inches of space myself.

That would put the bar 8" off my chest and I'd be getting no stretch and hardly any range of motion in my pecs.

You need to find a way to work the full range of motion without loving with your shoulders, typically with dumbbells and different hand angles, unless you have access to all sorts of crazy bars. Also do a lot more rowing to make your shoulders healthier. Once I bought a rower my shoulder issues coincidentally went away.

I also wear earplugs when working out. I like the kind that are attached to a string so they're reusable and hard to lose. Blocking out that terrible pop station (+ commercials) at the gym helps my focus quite a bit.

I didn't lift for about 4 weeks. No time in the gym at all. None of my lifts got weaker, really, except one rep of bench pressin' gone. It's back now tho

I was actually shocked I could still basically do the same lifts, particularly deadlifts

I did the same weight, it just felt less "stable"
