Lord Koth posted:I mean, I haven't seen any of them - or will I ever - but from previews and everything I've heard about them I wouldn't exactly call any of those failures direct adaptations either. Maaaaybe Death Note, but wasn't that a lovely Netflix made-for-tv one? Death Note is way different than the source, though it does trade on the same name and premise/character names. also i dunno if i'd say a movie produced for Netflix is necessarily lovely or in the realm of made-for-tv/direct-to-video.

Those scenes are silly, but I think they work and match the whole tone of the movie. I end up rewatching it every year or two, and I love it every time.

It's at least going to be hard for them to gently caress up a Macross/Robotech film as long as they copy the Valkyrie designs and make the CGI and action good.

Inception is really not inspired by Paprika. Robotech might work but I have a suspicion they'll probably remove all the wierd elements. No more singing, the Earth probably won't get destroyed...

Inception was inspired by Paprika, but it has a completely different storyline and structure and metaphysics.

The Japanese Film Festival apparently has a different program for different state capitals which is a bummer 'cause I'm not going to get the Neko Atsume movie or a bunch of the short films and indie films On the other hand, we're getting both that Napping Princess movie and In this Corner of the World Also, I guess Your Name is only going around to the regional locations...? Weird. Maybe they just haven't finished announcing the program yet If there are any other Australians in here, the lineup seems pretty neat, should be fun

The Seven Seas license today were Magical Beasts and Where to Find Them but it's a manga andquote:Kinji, who lacks any kind of work ethic, is a layabout in his modern life. One day, he finds himself transported to another world–but not in a grand fantasy of a hero welcomed with open arms. He’s immediately shoved into a terrible job! Now enslaved by an evil mining company in a fantasy world, Kinji’s about to really learn the meaning of hard work! quote:An elite but socially-stunted gamer finds himself in another world, inhabiting the body of his character Diablo. But despite his powers, his awkwardness keeps getting in the way–so he decides to pretend to be a Demon Lord and soon finds himself with a pair of slaves: a well-endowed elf and a cat girl. Together, they struggle with everything from interpersonal relationships to diabolical beast battles!

A young girl named Ziska, born into a line of mages, becomes the apprentice to a veterinarian for magical creatures. With the two of them working together, they hope to save these beasts of legend from a world that is leaving them behind. I'll read it!

after this interview with the director i am somewhat intrigued by this fall 2017 show: http://www.animenewsnetwork.cc/interview/2017-09-13/amica-kubo/.120872 mainly cos women so seldom get to direct anime when they actually do its because they are real fuckin good (eg blood blockade, michiko and hatchin) and the pv looks interesting. her philosophy on the design elements sound promising too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTzzXyRcGFw the manga being adapted seems pretty bare boned and as the interview implies this seems like the series is gonna be borderline anime original too, which is always interesting. i have hopes for this show and will definitely keep an eye on it
