Why do you have to puzzle away at your own house? Why was everyone not there when they were expecting you to be home?

Then again, I guess you wouldn't have a lame game to argue about if everyone was at home when you show up.

I started playing Anatomy last night and got interrupted with a work call (which definitely did not make me poop my pants when my phone rang, no sir) and goddamn if there isn't something deeply unsettling about just wandering around an unfamiliar house in the dark. I don't think I even got more than 5 minutes in or so, so I can't imagine I even got to the meat of the "story," such as it will be.

How am I supposed to enjoy a story if the characters don't do the right thing? How can I possibly sympathize with a character who makes a mistake, or does what I wouldn't have done?

By giving flawed characters redeeming characteristics the audience can sympathize with. All the ancillary characters are flawed but working towards positive goals. Sam destroys all of that while making every character dote on her. Her only struggle is that her girlfriend is going away for 10 weeks.

So no, I can't sympathize with someone who ruins the lives of every other character. Typically we call that a villain but the best villains are either charming or sympathetic. Sam is neither.

World of Horror is really fun, like a single player Arkham Horror, but it seems really...buggy. I've had two runs lost (one was near the end too) because the game just started flipping out and then eventually crashed.

I did get to play as an Idol and amass a giant posse of cultists by lying repeatably and telling them I worship the Old God though, that was funny.

Pretty sure you find it in their garbage torn up. Her mother made her that cosplay dress, they're closed minded but totally supportive of their daughter's creativity and congratulate her on that scholarship. Even the bullies at school mess with her because she's a weird rear end in a top hat. Like if she was beat up because she was gay I'd be like "get outta town, start a new life!" but she has zero adversity!

I played it on itch.io as a demo a while ago and it kind of reminded me of Failbetter games but without the quality writing. I don't know how that style would translate to a longer game.

I'm a sucker for games where the central hub is a spooky house that subtly changes each time you leave to explore an offsite area then return to it.

Resident Evil 1, Realms of the Haunting, Clive Barker's Undying, etc.

I thought Gone Home was going to be like that as well, but like 10 minutes into it I realized it was basically just a computerized doll house.

Soma has such a nice, slow burn throughout that really builds upon itself.

Compare that to Outlast 2 which blows its load within the first 20 minutes and becomes a tedious slog for the rest of its overly long playtime.
