I may love nearly all cheesy 80s custom end songs, from the clips made into music to custom stuff to the endgame in the 90s of having Will Smith just make a song catchier and noir fun than the movie you just watched.

I know this must exist somewhere in our music sub forum, but is there a book club for rap, where you kind of walk through the genre from early days and evolution and discuss it a song or album at time?

It’s extra funny because at least half of every rock and roll song from the 80s is glorifying drugs, women, and money. And it’s 100% of dogs if you just look at glam rock.

Speaking of Avatar, can anyone tell me why they made a theme park for it? I just don't know a single person who really was that engrossed into the avatar "universe" to care enough about it to even go to a theme park, much less 9 years later. Hell, I cant even remember a single name of any of the characters.

Because even in 200-whenever that movie came out, the only thing you ever heard people really praise it for was how beautiful and immersive the world was. There were even articles about people being depressed because they couldn't live on Pandora.

They're probably trying to get in on the ground floor to cash in on the sequels, too.

Beachcomber posted:

It's Disney, and even if it doesn't draw additional people to that park, it will let them turn Animal Kingdom from a "half day park" to one that keeps people there until 9pm, greatly increasing the resort's carrying capacity. People will go because it's Disney.

Plus, there's supposed to be 4 more movies, all directed by James Cameron, and he's got a pretty solid track record. It's kind of weird Disney invested in an IP they don't own, though.

Pretty sure it's far from the first time. IIRC back in the 90s sometime they were featuring stuff with the Ninja Turtles, that just sticks out in my mind for how loving weird it was even to kid me.

The history of Hip Hop is very interesting, more people should read up about it.

What grinds my gears is the people complaining about how it's all just glorification of thugs, money, drugs, bitches and hoes. That type of glorification was created by corporate america and ties directly into racism. It's by design that mainstream rap is vilified by the establishment, where important Hip Hop has been stuck as "underground" music.

It's almost as if the corporations controlling radio stations have a reason for playing the most "gangsta" music that is condemned by white suburbanites.

Anyone who distinguishes between "hip hop" and "rap" is a shithead.

Its weird that the studios are going into anime because I can't think of a single one of them that turned out good in (American) live action. Ghost in the Shell, DBZ Evolution, the Death Note series, and the Last Airbender (honorary anime here) all failed pretty bad.

Also I can't wait until someone in Hollywood finds the real creepy nerdbait shows that take up 95% of anime nowadays.

Edit: Speed Racer, Edge of Tomorrow and the Matrix would probably count as good adaptions, although for the latter two you could go in not knowing its based off of All You Need Is Kill / Ghost in the Shell in the first place.

The book and the movie are pretty similar, although the book has a different meta element to it as instead of a grandfather reading to his grandson it is Goldman talking about how he took the "original" novel and edited it down to be something more exciting.

Is it just me or are there a higher than usual number of re-releases that came/are coming out this summer/fall? Princess Bride, ET, Close Encounters, Wrath of Khan, Wall Street, even the Samurai Jack TV movie getting a theatrical release, I feel like a couple more I'm missing. I guess it's a sign of the slow movie season.

I think Goldman just wrote those chapters as a joke for the 20th anniversary of the novel or something like that. I can't imagine he'll ever get around to actually doing something with it, I don't think Goldman has written a novel since before the Princess Bride movie came out.
