This cartoon is inaccurate. A cow butchered and prepared by punching it in the face would not be kosher (as the Hebrew text on the last piece of meat claims it would), and neither would a Nazi.

while i'm sure the subtlety is lost on most newspaper readers and possibly also on the cartoonist, I appreciate that he drew the Cadeuceus (symbol of Hermes, the god of merchants and commerce, and the one who escorts the dead to Hades) instead of the Rod of Asklepios (symbol of healing and medicine). A particularly GC

In this case, "dog bones" means bones for dogs to chew on (butchers used to give away meat bones for dogs or to make soup/stock with).

As for the koshered meat, maybe Popeye just punched the bull so hard it instantly drained all the blood out?

And, uh, for whatever it's worth, the Rod of Asklepios most likely depicts a worm (specifically, a Guinea worm, which needs to be very slowly extracted by being wrapped around a stick). So I guess that's also a can of worms? I dunno.

A lot of hospital and medical things (in the US at least) use the Caduceus rather than the Rod of Asklepios. Something something American healthcare

The interesting part is that commercial medical organizations are more likely to use the Caduceus while public ones are more likely to use the Rod.

You can blame that on the US Army Medical Corps, which used it for its emblem back in 1902. One single officer got his snake rods mixed up and now we've all got to live with it.

Correct me if Im wrong, but shouldnt these cartoons be depicting Heff in hell? I dont know much of the man but he built an empire based on "sin" and supposedly lived the same way. I know showing a dead guy at the pearly gates is par for the course and essentially a cartoonists day off like drawing a sad uncle sam after a tragedy, but it seems a bit seems dense or something like that to me.

Yeah, very few political cartoonists featured in this thread are that actively religious, even the conservative ones. They draw fluffy cloud heavens just as a shorthand for "a famous person died", not out of any genuine belief. Plus, showing someone in hell would probably be seen in very bad taste unless that person was universally reviled.

I can't wait for Adam4d to weigh in on it, though.
